PLC Programmer – Ford GVOSS Standards
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced
PLC Programmer
with strong knowledge of
Ford GVOSS standards
to design, develop, troubleshoot, and support industrial automation systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with
Allen-Bradley PLCs
,
Rockwell Automation
,
HMI programming
, and automotive manufacturing controls.
This position requires a strong understanding of
Ford Global Vehicle Operations Structured Standards (GVOSS)
, electrical control systems, manufacturing equipment, and plant-floor automation. The PLC Programmer will work closely with engineering, maintenance, production, and integration teams to ensure reliable, safe, and standards-compliant control systems.
Responsibilities
Develop, modify, and troubleshoot
PLC programs
for automated manufacturing equipment.
Program and support
Allen-Bradley ControlLogix
and
CompactLogix PLCs
.
Create, update, and maintain
HMI applications
using
FactoryTalk View
or similar platforms.
Ensure control systems comply with
Ford GVOSS standards
and applicable plant requirements.
Perform
PLC commissioning
, equipment startup, system validation, and production support.
Troubleshoot electrical, controls, communication, and automation issues using structured diagnostic methods.
Integrate PLCs with
robotic systems
, conveyors, safety devices, vision systems, and manufacturing equipment.
Configure and troubleshoot industrial networks, including
EtherNet/IP
,
DeviceNet
, and related communication protocols.
Review and interpret
electrical schematics
, control panel drawings, I/O documentation, and equipment specifications.
Develop and maintain PLC documentation, program backups, alarm descriptions, sequence-of-operation documents, and change records.
Support
machine safety systems
, interlocks, fault recovery, and safe operating sequences.
Collaborate with controls engineers, electricians, robot programmers, equipment suppliers, and manufacturing personnel.
Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, cycle time, uptime, and overall production efficiency.
Provide technical support during equipment installation, launch, and continuous-improvement activities.
Follow applicable safety, quality, and automotive manufacturing standards.
Qualifications
Proven experience as a
PLC Programmer
,
Controls Engineer
, or
Automation Engineer
in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of
Ford GVOSS standards
.
Hands-on experience programming
Allen-Bradley ControlLogix
or
CompactLogix PLCs
.
Proficiency with
Studio 5000
,
RSLogix 5000
, or related Rockwell programming software.
Experience developing or troubleshooting
FactoryTalk View HMI
applications.
Strong knowledge of
ladder logic
, PLC sequencing, I/O systems, alarms, interlocks, and fault diagnostics.
Experience with
automotive manufacturing automation
, assembly systems, material handling, or body-shop equipment.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, panel drawings, and technical documentation.
Working knowledge of industrial communication networks and device integration.
Experience with system startup, commissioning, debug, and production-floor troubleshooting.
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional engineering and maintenance teams.
Willingness to support project launches, production downtime, or off-shift activities as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with
Ford manufacturing facilities
, Ford-approved system integrators, or Ford equipment specifications.
Knowledge of
robotics integration
, including FANUC or ABB systems.
Experience with
safety PLCs
, safety relays, light curtains, scanners, and machine-guarding systems.
Familiarity with
VFDs
, servo systems, vision systems, barcode readers, and industrial instrumentation.
Experience with automotive launch, equipment installation, or controls validation projects.
Associate or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field.
