Position Title: Physical Therapist Assistant - Pilot - 1099 Department: Pilot Programs Reports To: Director of Cardiac Sales, Three Rivers Region Location / Work Environment: Office-Based Collaboration Environment Worker Classification: 1099 Contractor FLSA Status: Not Applicable to Independent Contractors Job Level: Standard Job Purpose The Physical Therapist Assistant - Pilot - 1099 serves as a clinical support professional assisting with ROMTech pilot programs, research initiatives, and IRB-approved studies. This role works under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist and partners with internal teams, physicians, hospitals, and health systems to support the implementation and evaluation of innovative rehabilitation strategies. The position assists with patient care and participant engagement within approved study protocols, supports clinical data collection and outcome tracking, and provides practical insight into patient workflows and rehabilitation delivery. The Physical Therapist Assistant contributes to the advancement of ROMTech's clinician-guided at-home rehabilitation model while practicing within the scope of the applicable state license and supervision requirements. Key Responsibilities Essential Duties Assist the supervising Physical Therapist with the implementation and execution of clinical protocols for ROMTech pilot programs and IRB-approved studies. Provide physical therapy assistant services to participants enrolled in approved pilot programs and clinical studies under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist and in accordance with protocol requirements and professional standards of care. Assist with patient assessments, therapeutic interventions, exercise programs, mobility activities, and rehabilitation activities as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist. Support patient and participant engagement, education, adherence, and understanding of prescribed rehabilitation programs. Monitor and document patient progress and assist with collection of clinical outcomes and study-related data. Collaborate with Physical Therapists, research, clinical, and operational stakeholders to support study execution and program objectives. Provide practical clinical feedback regarding rehabilitation protocols, patient engagement, workflow, and recovery pathways. Assist with evaluating the effectiveness and usability of innovative rehabilitation approaches for pilot populations. Support accurate and timely clinical documentation and data collection in accordance with applicable protocols and organizational requirements. Participate in meetings and presentations with physicians, healthcare administrators, clinicians, and internal stakeholders as appropriate to the role. Support compliance with applicable IRB requirements, HIPAA regulations, state practice requirements, supervision requirements, and professional standards. Communicate patient observations, progress, concerns, and relevant clinical information to the supervising Physical Therapist and appropriate members of the care team. Contribute practical clinical insights that support new service models, product innovation, patient workflows, and research initiatives. Operate and assist patients with ROMTech rehabilitation technology and related equipment in accordance with training, established protocols, and the direction of the supervising Physical Therapist. Other Functions Participate in pilot planning discussions and innovation-focused initiatives. Provide feedback regarding program design, workflow optimization, patient engagement, and clinical adoption strategies. Assist with preparation of clinical summaries, presentations, patient education materials, and study-related materials. Assist with maintaining study and pilot documentation and ensuring required information is collected accurately and consistently. Performs other mutually agreed upon duties consistent with the applicable engagement or contract. Qualifications JOB QUALIFICATIONS Skills and Abilities Required Strong knowledge of physical therapy assistant principles, therapeutic exercise, mobility training, and rehabilitation techniques. Ability to provide patient care under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. Strong clinical observation, communication, and patient interaction skills. Ability to accurately follow established treatment protocols, study procedures, and clinical instructions. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate patient progress, observations, and concerns effectively to the supervising Physical Therapist and multidisciplinary healthcare team. Ability to work independently while supporting cross-functional objectives and maintaining appropriate clinical supervision. Proficiency with clinical documentation and patient progress tracking. Knowledge of HIPAA requirements and patient privacy standards. Ability to learn and effectively use technology-enabled rehabilitation platforms and equipment. Preferred Experience supporting pilot programs, clinical research, or study-based care models. Familiarity with IRB processes and clinical research environments. Experience with technology-enabled rehabilitation programs or remote/at-home care models. Experience working with orthopedic, cardiovascular, or rehabilitation patient populations. Interest in healthcare innovation and emerging care delivery strategies. Experience collecting clinical outcomes or supporting quality improvement initiatives. Work Experience Requirements Required Minimum of 1 year of clinical physical therapist assistant experience. Experience providing rehabilitation interventions under the direction and supervision of a Physical Therapist. Experience working with diverse patient populations. Experience documenting patient care and monitoring patient progress. Preferred 2 to 3 years of clinical experience in orthopedic, cardiovascular, or rehabilitation settings. Prior research, pilot study, or clinical program experience. Experience collaborating with hospitals, health systems, physician organizations, or multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Experience working with rehabilitation technology or technology-enabled care models. Education Requirements Required Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program. Preferred Additional education or training in clinical research, healthcare administration, population health, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, orthopedics, or related disciplines. License and Certification Requirements Required Active Physical Therapist Assistant license in good standing in the jurisdiction(s) where services will be provided. Current CPR/BLS certification, if required by the applicable pilot program, facility, or jurisdiction. Preferred Clinical research or specialty rehabilitation certifications. Additional certifications or training related to orthopedics, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, patient engagement, or performance improvement. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Office Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods of time. Moderate noise environment, including meetings, telephone conversations, and computer audio. Regular use of computers, keyboards, telephones, and presentation technology. Ability to stand, walk, communicate, and interact with patients, clinicians, healthcare administrators, and business stakeholders as required. Ability to assist with patient mobility, therapeutic exercise, transfers, and demonstration of rehabilitation techniques as required by pilot programs. May require frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and other physical activities associated with patient care and rehabilitation. Ability to safely assist patients during rehabilitation activities within the scope of practice and applicable supervision requirements. May require demonstration and operation of ROMTech rehabilitation technology and related equipment. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to review clinical documentation and electronic records. Regular participation in meetings, presentations, and collaborative discussions is required.
