Within our People & Culture team, we are actively seeking an individual to join us as Employee, Health, Safety & Wellness Specialists whose focus is on the internal operations and staff. The Health and Safety Specialist position will be actively engaged in operational safety excellence including partnering with departments to facilitate and champion our health and safety programs.
This position offers an avenue for you to showcase your expertise, provide inspiring leadership, and facilitate learning through the development and implementation of innovative health and safety initiatives, along with setting and upholding high standards. In these capacities, you will assume the responsibility of a respected authority in health and safety matters, not only benefiting our employees but also championing our shared vision and values.
How you'll make a difference:
You'll build, lead and champion health and safety programs.
Where you'll work
At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position
Collaborate with business teams, senior leadership, and People & Culture to support the business to integrate health, and safety programs and practices throughout the organization
Monitor health and safety program effectiveness; develop and renew organizational-wide health and safety programs and training
Monitor key indicators and report to senior management
Collaborate with EHSW team members, P&C Business Partners, Directors, Managers, Corporate Communications, Compensation Employees Union (CEU) and others to provide support, advice, and to influence decisions regarding health and safety including its promotion in the workplace
Act as a subject matter expert in internal safety investigations
Apply a proactive, creative, collaborative approach to finding business and people solutions
Build and maintain excellent relationships internally and externally at all levels of the organization, partnering closely with the operational side of the organization and other key stakeholders
Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.
We're looking for someone/people who can:
Demonstrate strong time management skills; monitoring progress of initiatives and ensuring deadlines are met
Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to present coherent documentation, reports, ideas, and concepts
Demonstrate the ability to present their ideas, engage and influence stakeholders
Provide guidance in Employee Health, Safety and Wellness, particularly in health and safety programs and initiatives
Drive to various worksites as needed
Your background and experience
A
university/college degree
in a relevant discipline, such as
occupational health and safety, occupational hygiene
and minimum
3 years of experience
working in a diverse organizational health and safety program in a multi-site organization, plus the following:
Excellent working knowledge of
BC OH &S regulations and standards
Experience in
developing, implementing and evaluating
occupational health and safety management systems
Experience in
implementing
and
maintaining health and safety management system solutions,
processes and platforms
Education and experience in
developing health and safety training strategies and programs
Experience and skills in project management, change management, education and training, research, policy and program development, and stakeholder engagement
A current valid driver's license
Accreditation as an OH&S Professional (i.e., CRSP) would be an asset

Salary: $95,241 - $115,717/ yearly
