Job DescriptionJob Description Job Title: Order Picker Job Description This role focuses on accurately picking and building palletized orders in a high-volume refrigerated and frozen warehouse environment that supports food distribution across Ontario. You will operate stand-up material handling equipment and use an RF scanner to locate, pick, and stage products, while maintaining safety, accuracy, and productivity standards. Responsibilities Report directly to the meeting board at the start of each shift to receive daily instructions and updates. Sign out and inspect an RF scanner and stand-up material handling equipment such as a dock stocker or similar equipment before beginning work. Use the RF scanner to identify assigned locations and navigate efficiently throughout the warehouse. Perform case picking based on RF scanner instructions, such as retrieving specific quantities of items (for example, boxes of bacon or chicken wings). Build full pallets while driving and maneuvering the stand-up forklift or dock stocker, ensuring loads are stable, accurate, and safely stacked. Lift and handle cases typically weighing between 5 and 30 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds, throughout the shift. Stage completed pallets in designated areas once orders are fulfilled, then promptly move on to the next RF-scanned order. Focus primarily on case picking for the first 3–4 months to develop strong accuracy, speed, and equipment-handling skills. After the initial period, participate in training on reach truck equipment to perform high-level case picking and support additional tasks such as receiving. Work consistently in refrigerated and freezer areas, adapting to temperature conditions and following all safety and cold-storage handling procedures. Follow all warehouse safety guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of forklifts and other material handling equipment. Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area, contributing to the overall cleanliness and orderliness of the facility. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet productivity targets and support a cooperative, efficient workflow. Report any equipment issues, inventory discrepancies, or safety concerns promptly to the appropriate personnel. Essential Skills 1–6 months of recent experience operating a stand-up reach truck or dock stocker (stand-up forklift), preferably similar to Crown equipment. Previous experience in an order picking or case picking position within a warehouse environment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly, with most cases typically weighing between 5 and 30 pounds. Comfort working full-time in refrigerated and freezer environments in all seasons. Proficiency using RF scanners to locate, pick, and confirm inventory. Experience operating warehouse forklifts, particularly stand-up forklifts and dock stockers. Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate order picking and pallet building. Ability to work safely and efficiently while driving and maneuvering material handling equipment in a busy warehouse. Reliability and consistency in attendance and performance to meet productivity expectations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as a warehouse associate or order picker in a distribution or logistics setting. Familiarity with case picking, order picking, and general warehouse operations. Experience working in refrigerated or freezer warehouse environments. Access to a personal vehicle is an asset due to the facility location. Willingness to learn additional equipment such as high-level reach trucks and support tasks in receiving after initial training. Work Environment The role is based in a modern, very clean, and well-organized warehouse that supports large-scale food distribution. The facility is bright and collaborative, with a strong emphasis on safety and efficient workflow. You will work primarily in refrigerated and freezer environments, with the refrigerated area maintained around 2°reeC and the freezer area around -15°reeC. You operate stand-up material handling equipment such as dock stockers and reach trucks, and rely on RF scanners to guide order picking and pallet staging. The employer provides specialized cold-environment gear, including jackets, snow pants, hats, and gloves, to keep you comfortable during your shift.
