Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Manager of Mental Health Programs, the Occupational Therapist practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) as well as within a patient and family centered care model and the vision and values of the Brockville General Hospital (BGH). Provides occupational therapy services to enable patients to achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes, by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
The Occupational Therapist participates in in-service and hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and that contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives.
Education and Experience:
Masters degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized University. Membership in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists' of Ontario (COTO).
Membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists, (CAOT) and the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists' (OSOT) is preferred..
A minimum of three years’ experience providing direct clinical services within an inpatient, and/or outpatient mental and/or community mental setting
Significant clinical experience in the assessment and treatment (individual and group) of: Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders
,
Bipolar and Related Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders
,
providing
cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, and dialectical behaviour therapy and other empirically supported modalities.
Current (BLS) Basic Life Skills Certificate required.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Training required
Proof of malpractice insurance as required by COTO is required.
Valid Class G Ontario driver’s license , current driver’s abstract and proof of current vehicle insurance required
Current Assistive Devices Program (ADP) authorizer is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Regulated Health Care Professions Act, Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Health Care Consent Act, Substitute Decisions Act.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of Occupational Therapy assessments including cognitive, vocational, rehabilitation) and tools and treatment modalities within this patient population
Demonstrated clinical experience using non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
Knowledge of the regional health care system, including mental health and addictions services, community services and resources, eligibility criteria, ability to effectively facilitate referrals
Knowledge of the Assertive Community Treatment Team Standards
Ability to accompany clients in their home and community settings.
Working knowledge of psychopharmacology
Demonstrated sensitivity and awareness of the stigma frequently experienced by persons carrying a psychiatric diagnosis
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a multicultural, diverse, equitable and inclusive care environment
Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
Excellent time management, and organizational skills, and ability to multiple tasks and set priorities
Excellent level of written and verbal communication skills required and proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
