Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions at the King Street campus, the Nurse Practitioner will work in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to provide support to individuals with mental health and/or addiction concerns. Functioning within the Standards of Practice for Extended Class as set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), the NP will work in collaboration with physicians, nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary team to initiate withdrawal management protocols, treatment pathways, and to develop and implement care plans, ensuring optimal care for patients at the King Street Campus.
QualificationsCertification/Experience/Knowledge
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class {RN (EC)} and with a specialty certificate in either Adult or Primary Health Care required
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) certificate required (within the last 12 months)
Recent clinical experience (within last 2 years) in a mental health and/or addictions setting preferred
Successful completion of controlled substance education and ability to prescribe controlled substances required
Current Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing certification an asset
Experience with substance use interventions (i.e. Motivational Interviewing (MI), Stages of Change) an asset
Skills/Abilities
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with all members of an Interdisciplinary health care team which includes clients, families and community partners required
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and quality improvement to facilitate, integrate and spread best practice principles in mental health and addictions required
Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgement and critical thinking required
Demonstrated ability to apply ethical frameworks and choose the optimal assessment and treatment intervention required
Demonstrated strong therapeutic communication skills with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear, concise manner, considering the intended audience required
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload, rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines required
Ability to meet the physical demands required for a community-based team required
Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention to ensure the safety of self, fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
Excellent attendance and work record required
Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
