NOC 31102 - General practitioners and family physicians
Provide comprehensive primary care to patients of all ages, delivering evidence-based diagnosis, treatment, and preventive services. Coordinate patient care with specialists and allied health professionals while maintaining accurate clinical documentation.

Main Duties
Obtain detailed medical histories, perform physical examinations, and order or interpret diagnostic tests to establish diagnoses.
Develop, implement, and adjust individualized treatment and care plans, including prescribing medications and therapies.
Deliver preventive care services such as routine screening, immunizations, health promotion, and lifestyle counselling.
Manage acute illnesses and exacerbations of chronic conditions, and perform minor clinical procedures as appropriate.
Coordinate referrals to specialists, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and follow up on patient progress and specialist recommendations.
Maintain accurate and timely medical records using electronic medical record systems and ensure appropriate follow-up and continuity of care.
Requirements
Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
Completion of a residency program in family medicine or equivalent postgraduate training.
Certification or eligibility for certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or an equivalent certifying body.
Eligibility for registration and licensure with the provincial or territorial medical regulatory authority.
Clinical experience in primary care or family medicine demonstrating competence in diagnosis and management.
Proficiency in English with effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate in French is an asset.
