Position Type: Contract/Hourly Employment/Extracurricular Assignment - Professional Personnel Date Posted: 8/21/2026 Location: Madison Middle School County: Boone County Schools BOONE COUNTY SCHOOLS Principal Mentor Position Overview The Principal Mentor will provide support, guidance, coaching, and practical assistance to newly hired Boone County Schools (BCS) principals as they transition into their school leadership roles. The mentor will serve as a trusted professional resource and will assist the new principal in developing effective leadership practices, understanding district expectations, and successfully managing the academic and operational responsibilities of the school. Qualifications The Principal Mentor must: Be a current Boone County Schools principal . Have a minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a principal . Demonstrate a record of academic achievement and measurable school improvement at their school. Possess a strong understanding of student achievement data and demonstrate the ability to use data to guide instructional and organizational decision-making. Demonstrate strong knowledge of instructional leadership, curriculum and instruction, assessment, and effective teaching and learning practices . Demonstrate effective leadership in the areas of personnel management, student discipline, school operations, and community relations . Demonstrate the ability to build and maintain positive professional relationships with staff, students, families, district personnel, and the school community . Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Maintain appropriate professionalism and confidentiality when discussing personnel, students, and other sensitive school matters. Responsibilities The Principal Mentor will: Meet regularly with the newly hired principal throughout the school year to provide guidance, answer questions, identify areas of need, and discuss school leadership responsibilities. Provide meaningful, in-person mentoring and coaching throughout the school year. Host the new principal at the mentor's school at least once per month for job-shadowing opportunities. Provide opportunities during monthly job-shadowing visits for the new principal to observe: Daily school operations and administrative procedures. Instructional leadership practices. Classroom observations and instructional monitoring. Staff meetings and professional collaboration. Student discipline and behavior-management procedures. Staff and personnel interactions. Parent and community communication. Other appropriate administrative and leadership responsibilities. Serve as a resource for questions related to: School operations. Personnel supervision and management. Instruction and curriculum. Student achievement and assessment data. Student discipline. Parent and family communication. School improvement. Staff development. District procedures and expectations. Other school leadership matters. Assist the new principal in analyzing student achievement and school-performance data and using that information to establish priorities and make informed decisions. Share successful leadership strategies, resources, procedures, and best practices that may assist the new principal. Help the new principal develop effective systems for organizing and managing the responsibilities associated with the principalship. Provide encouragement, professional support, and constructive feedback throughout the school year. Encourage reflective leadership practices and assist the new principal in identifying professional strengths and areas for continued growth. Maintain regular communication with the new principal and remain reasonably available to provide guidance when questions or significant leadership situations arise. Perform other mentoring responsibilities related to the successful transition and professional growth of the newly hired principal as assigned by the Superintendent or designee. Compensation $450 per semester Funding Step 7D Length of Assignment The Principal Mentor assignment will be for the applicable school year and will be supplemental to the employee's regular duties as a Boone County Schools principal. Evaluation of Assignment Successful completion of the assignment will be based upon fulfillment of the mentoring responsibilities, including regular communication, meaningful in-person mentoring, monthly job-shadowing opportunities, and continued professional support of the newly hired principal.
