About the Opportunity:
Our client, a highly diversified and well-established leader in the forest products and renewable energy sector, is seeking a General Manager to lead its Sawmill and Biomass Pellets Operations business unit in Atlantic Canada.
This is a rare executive leadership opportunity for an experienced manufacturing or industrial operations leader who is passionate about operational excellence, sustainability, business growth, and people leadership.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving operational performance, advancing strategic growth initiatives, and leading a high-performing team through the next phase of expansion and modernization.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead all aspects of biomass pellet and industrial operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable performance
Develop and execute strategic business plans focused on operational excellence, customer satisfaction, growth, and market expansion
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing, logistics, fibre supply, and operational systems using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
Collaborate cross-functionally with fibre procurement, woodlands, transportation, and commercial teams to optimize supply chain performance and cost efficiency
Lead capital planning initiatives, including plant upgrades, modernization, and future expansion projects
Champion a strong safety culture focused on accountability, engagement, and operational discipline
Build, mentor, and develop high-performing leadership teams across multiple operational areas
Represent the business in customer engagements, regulatory discussions, industry associations, and sustainability-focused initiatives
Support and strengthen the organization’s sustainability strategy and ESG initiatives through stakeholder engagement and operational leadership
Maintain strong financial oversight, including budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and full P&L accountability
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience within manufacturing, forestry, wood products, biomass, energy, or other industrial operations
Demonstrated success leading large operational teams and complex manufacturing environments
Strong business acumen with experience managing budgets, operational performance, and P&L responsibilities
Proven ability to lead organizational growth, change management, and operational transformation initiatives
Experience collaborating with senior leadership, customers, regulators, and external stakeholders
Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage teams at all levels
Bilingualism (English/French) is considered a strong asset
MBA or additional business education is considered an asset
Preferred Experience
Renewable energy, biomass, pellet manufacturing, forestry, pulp & paper, or heavy industrial operations
International business exposure, commercial negotiations, or export market experience
Continuous improvement leadership including Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma environments
Multi-site operational leadership experience
