Fine Gold Resourcesis a precious metals mining company operating in the Yukon. We operate on a seasonal basis from March to October and are looking for a qualifiedMining Technician,to be based in Dawson City, Yukon.
We provide accommodation and meals at our on-site camp and offer a highly competitive compensation package.
The mine operates 24/7 with two shifts each day - a day shift and a night shift - with a rotation schedule. During their time off employees may stay on-site at the camp or venture to Dawson City for some time away.
For candidates local to the Dawson City area, we are open to considering an onsite / offsite working schedule.
Mining Technician
The Mining Technician plays a key technical role in placer mining operations by supporting surveying, mine planning, production analysis, and operational execution. This position is responsible for tracking production, designing and adjusting mine plans, monitoring equipment productivity, and supporting data-driven decision-making to optimize gold recovery and operational efficiency.
Core Technical Responsibilities
Conduct surveying and mapping of mining areas using GPS and other surveying tools
Track mining progress against plans, production targets, and timelines
Assist in designing mine plans, pit layouts, haul roads, and excavation sequences
Monitor and analyze machinery productivity and utilization rates
Support operational scheduling of mining activities, equipment, and workforce
Perform forecasting of production, material movement, and resource requirements
Test, sample, and track gold productivity across mining areas to evaluate performance
Maintain accurate mapping of site locations, pits, stockpiles, and infrastructure
Maintain and organize drilling records and geological data
Assist with designing future drilling programs and exploration plans
Develop cost projections and estimates for mining areas and operational phases
Key Responsibilities
Surveying & Mine Planning
Conduct topographic and as-built surveys of pits, stockpiles, and haul roads
Mark boundaries, cut lines, and drill locations in accordance with mine plans
Update and maintain mine maps and survey data
Adjust mine plans based on field conditions, productivity results, and geological findings
Production Tracking & Analysis
Track daily and weekly production metrics (yardage, throughput, recovery rates)
Monitor variances between planned and actual production
Analyze gold recovery data to improve efficiency
Generate reports to support operational decision-making
Mining Operations
Support extraction of placer material using excavators, loaders, and bulldozers
Coordinate feed to wash plants and sluicing systems
Assist with stripping, stockpiling, and reclamation activities
Equipment Productivity & Scheduling
Monitor equipment performance, downtime, and utilization
Support development of equipment schedules and shift plans
Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce downtime
Drilling & Exploration Support
Track and maintain drilling logs and records
Assist in planning drill programs and target areas
Coordinate drill site preparation and layout
Support interpretation of drilling and sampling results
Cost Control & Forecasting
Assist in preparing cost estimates and budgets for mining areas
Monitor operating costs and identify cost-saving opportunities
Forecast material volumes, fuel usage, and production outputs
Gold Recovery & Processing
Monitor wash plants, trommels, and sluice boxes
Assist with gold clean-ups and recovery optimization
Evaluate recovery efficiency across mining zones
Health, Safety & Compliance
Follow all safety protocols and participate in hazard assessments
Ensure compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements
Promote a strong safety culture on-site
Environmental Stewardship
Support water management and recycling systems
Assist in reclamation and land restoration activities
Monitor environmental impact and compliance
Qualifications and Skills
Post-secondary education in Mining Technology, Geomatics, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred
Experience in mining work environments, surveying, or heavy equipment operations is an asset
Valid drivers license
Experience with GPS/survey software (e.g., Trimble, Leica)
First Aid / CPR certification
Mine safety training
Strong understanding of mine planning, surveying, and production tracking
Ability to interpret maps, plans, and technical data
Analytical mindset with strong data tracking and forecasting skills
Mechanical awareness of mining equipment performance
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Ability to work in remote, physically demanding environments
Working Conditions
Outdoor work in varying terrain and extreme weather conditions
