Job DescriptionJob Description Job Title: Millwright Apprentice / Maintenance Technician Job Description This role supports a two-week industrial shutdown, focusing on the maintenance, repair, installation, and optimization of industrial equipment and machinery. You will work in a heavy industrial environment, performing both corrective and preventative maintenance to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production lines and facility systems. Responsibilities Maintain and repair industrial equipment and machinery in a heavy industrial environment. Modify, repair, install, maintain, and troubleshoot packaging and other manufacturing equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving mechanical systems, plumbing, basic welding, and metal work. Perform equipment, line, and system installations, ensuring proper alignment and safe operation. Decommission equipment and machinery safely and efficiently when required. Support commissioning and start-up activities for new or modified equipment and systems. Carry out preventative and scheduled maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Respond to shutdowns and breakdowns, diagnosing faults and implementing timely repairs. Conduct troubleshooting and diagnostics on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Support facility upgrades and modifications by installing, adjusting, and testing equipment. Provide maintenance shift coverage as needed, including extended hours during shutdown periods. Work with bearings, belts, pumps, conveyors, fans, airlocks, gearboxes, pneumatic cylinders, and related components. Use overhead cranes, rigging, and hoisting equipment safely to move and position heavy components. Read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings to perform accurate assembly and installation. Perform conveyor maintenance, including tracking belts, changing rollers, and installing mechanical splices. Apply lockout/tagout and other safety procedures consistently to maintain a safe work environment. Essential Skills Registered Millwright Apprentice and/or Maintenance Technician with 2–5 years of experience in a heavy industrial environment. Proven experience performing preventative maintenance and repair on industrial equipment. Hands-on experience with rigging and hoisting operations in an industrial setting. Strong mechanical skills, including working with bearings, belts, pumps, conveyors, fans, airlocks, gearboxes, and pneumatic cylinders. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues. Experience working with large bearings (50 mm or greater in diameter). Proficiency in conveyor maintenance, including tracking belts, changing rollers, and installing mechanical splices. Experience operating overhead cranes safely and effectively. Capability to perform basic welding and metal work as part of maintenance and repair tasks. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings for installation and assembly work. Demonstrated experience with installation and maintenance of industrial equipment and systems. Comfort working in a heavy industrial environment that is hot, dusty, loud, and not temperature controlled. Availability and physical ability to work 10–12 hour shifts with significant overtime during shutdown periods. Valid and current certifications in Working at Heights (WAH), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), WHMIS, and 4 Steps. Work Environment The position is based in a heavy industrial facility characterized by hot, dusty, and loud conditions. The environment is not temperature controlled, so you must be comfortable working in varying and sometimes extreme temperatures. You will work with large industrial equipment, including conveyors, pumps, fans, airlocks, gearboxes, pneumatic cylinders, and overhead cranes, using your own tools and site-provided equipment as required. The schedule is primarily day shift, starting at 6:00 a.m., with 10–12 hour shifts as a minimum during the two-week shutdown period and extensive opportunities for overtime. Work is highly hands-on and physically demanding, with a strong emphasis on safety procedures such as lockout/tagout, working at heights, and adherence to WHMIS and other site regulations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milton, ON. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
