Position: Medical Laboratory Technologist
Competition: 2026-235 (Current Opportunity)
Status: Temporary Part-Time (up to 12 months with possible extension)

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager, this position is responsible for:
Participate in specimen reception, accessioning and preparation for diagnostic testing.
Perform routine and specialized testing in Transfusion Medicine, Hematology, and Chemistry
Conduct specimen analysis, validation, and result reporting in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures
Perform blood grouping, antibody screening, compatibility testing, and component preparation following transfusion medicine standards
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment
Ensure compliance with Accreditation Canada Diagnostics, regulatory, and safety standards
Participate in quality control, quality assurance, and continuous quality improvement activities
Collaborate with laboratory colleagues, nurses, and physicians to support timely patient care
Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPAC), occupational health, and safety practices
Support training and competency assessment of new staff and students as required
Participates in service and hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy staff and client-centered environment and that contributes to quality improvement and risk management initiatives.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory Science training program or equivalent CSMLS prior learning assessment program
Certification with Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory
Science (or eligibility)
Registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists Ontario (CMLTO)
Clinical experience in a medical laboratory preferably in a hospital setting with either a minimum 2 years’ experience or having completed your clinical placement within the last five years preferred
Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated evidence of maintaining clinical competence through continuing education and practical skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated competence using statistical analysis and computer applications
Demonstrates knowledge of a quality management system and the Accreditation Canada Diagnostics (ACD)requirements
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure productively
Ability to work harmoniously in a team environment and independently
Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills
Demonstrates ability to organize and plan effectively. Attention to detail.
Good attendance and availability required
Flexibility to work days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis
