Job DescriptionJob DescriptionMechanical Designer (Rail & Transportation Lighting Systems)About the Role We are seeking a talented Mechanical Designer to support the design and development of interior and exterior lighting systems for locomotive and passenger rail vehicles. This role is responsible for creating detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation while collaborating with internal teams and customers to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions. Key Responsibilities Design interior and exterior lighting systems for locomotive and passenger rail applications. Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, fabrication drawings, and bills of materials using SolidWorks . Develop manufacturing-ready designs that meet customer requirements and industry standards. Revise and update designs based on customer feedback, engineering reviews, and project requirements. Support the development of innovative engineering solutions that improve product performance and manufacturability. Maintain accurate project design records and technical documentation. Organize and manage CAD files and engineering data in accordance with company procedures and PDM standards. Ensure designs are completed in line with project schedules and deadlines. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, and project management. Required Qualifications Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline. 5+ years of experience in a Mechanical Designer or similar role. Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks , particularly for sheet metal design . Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) . Experience creating detailed manufacturing drawings and bills of materials. Knowledge of manufacturing processes including: CNC machining Sheet metal fabrication Metal and plastic extrusion General fabrication methods 3D printing Strong written and verbal communication skills. Highly organized with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Preferred Qualifications Experience with additional 3D CAD platforms such as CATIA, Inventor, Creo (Pro/ENGINEER), or Solid Edge . Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) systems. Basic understanding of electronics and PCB design. Experience with injection molding, die casting, and metal stamping processes. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Experience in rail, transportation, lighting, or industrial equipment industries is considered an asset.
