Job DescriptionJob Description Job Title: Mechanical Designer Job Description This role focuses on the design and delivery of large-scale industrial systems within complex processing and manufacturing environments. You will support highly complex, capital-intensive projects that convert wood waste and byproducts into usable energy, integrating multiple mechanical, structural, and piping subsystems into a cohesive, large-scale industrial solution. The position emphasizes detailed 3D mechanical design, fabrication-ready documentation, and close collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams in a highly integrated environment. Responsibilities Develop detailed 3D mechanical models and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor for large-scale biomass energy and kiln systems. Create accurate, fabrication-ready drawings and bills of materials that support heavy industrial manufacturing and installation. Translate project requirements and scope of work provided by Project Engineers into clear, complete, and manufacturable design deliverables. Coordinate the design of piping and fluid handling systems, control valves and instrumentation, structural steel, and access platforms such as stairs and railings. Collaborate closely with shop floor and fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical, efficient to build, and aligned with fabrication capabilities. Conduct regular walkthroughs of the fabrication shop and production areas to support manufacturing, resolve design issues, and validate that builds align with drawings. Participate in cross-disciplinary coordination with engineering, controls, and automation teams to integrate mechanical designs into complete system solutions. Support rigorous design validation activities for systems comprising thousands of components, ensuring accuracy, safety, and maintainability. Contribute to continuous improvement of design standards, drawing practices, and modeling workflows within a high-complexity project environment. Support long-duration projects that may involve up to two years of engineering and design work and thousands of engineering hours. Essential Skills Minimum 7+ years of mechanical design experience in heavy industrial manufacturing environments. At least 5+ years of experience creating fabrication drawings for industrial or large-scale mechanical systems. Minimum 2 years of hands-on Autodesk Inventor experience focused on 3D modeling and detailed mechanical design. Proven experience working in or closely with fabrication settings, with strong understanding of shop practices and constraints. Ability to interpret and apply welding symbols accurately in drawings and models. Experience with piping design in industrial applications, including routing and coordination with other systems. Strong understanding of mechanical design for large, integrated systems with thousands of components. Ability to collaborate effectively with project engineers, fabrication teams, and other technical stakeholders. Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, manufacturable drawings and models. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Plant 3D and piping design tools. Individuals who have worked with thermal systems design and integration. Experience in pulp and paper environments or related process industries. Interest in long-term career growth, with opportunities to move into roles such as Project Manager or Project Engineer. Comfort working on large-scale, capital-intensive projects that integrate multiple mechanical and structural subsystems. Work Environment This is a fully on-site role in a heavy industrial and fabrication-focused environment where engineering and manufacturing teams work closely together. You will spend most of your time in an office and design setting using Autodesk Inventor and related tools, with regular visits to the shop floor for walkthroughs, design validation, and collaboration with fabrication personnel. The standard schedule is 8.5 hours per day Monday through Thursday and 8 hours on Friday, with every fourth Friday off, and the organization emphasizes stability by favoring reduced hours and work sharing over layoffs. The culture supports long tenure, strong collaboration between engineering and fabrication, and opportunities to grow into broader project roles. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Surrey, BC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $52.89/hr. Workplace Type This is a fully onsite position in Surrey,BC. À propos d'Actalent Actalent est un leader mondial dans les services d’ingénierie et de sciences ainsi que dans les solutions de talents.
