About JM Test
JM Test is a leading provider of instrumentation, calibration, and test equipment solutions serving the oil and gas, industrial, utilities, and pipeline sectors across Western Canada. We are a company built on relationships, technical expertise, and showing up and we are looking for someone who embodies that same philosophy.
The Opportunity
This is not a desk job.
We are looking for a relentless, road-ready Market Development Representative to hit the ground running and get in front of as many customers as possible. If you are the kind of person who thrives on face-to-face conversations, loves the thrill of opening new doors, and is energized by a full day on the road this role was built for you.
You will be the face of JM Test in your territory, working through a substantial customer target list and building relationships that turn cold calls into loyal accounts. Door knocking is not just part of this job it is the heartbeat of it.
What You Will Do
Work through a defined target list of prospects and customers across your territory — and then find more.
Conduct high-volume in-person visits to industrial facilities, O&G sites, utilities, and pipeline operations daily.
Introduce JM Test's full suite of instrumentation, calibration, and test equipment rental solutions to new contacts.
Build and develop relationships from the ground up, from the first knock to the first purchase order.
Identify decision makers, influencers, and key contacts within each account and map the opportunity.
Follow up persistently and consistently, same customer, same door, as many times as it takes
Collaborate with inside sales and technical teams to develop proposals and close opportunities.
Attend industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings across the region.
Travel extensively throughout your territory, overnight stays are part of this role.
Maintain accurate records of all customer interactions, opportunities, and activity in CRM.
Who You Are
A natural people person who is genuinely energized by meeting new faces and starting new conversations.
Someone who views a closed door as a temporary obstacle, not a dead end.
Self-motivated, disciplined, and comfortable managing your own day without someone looking over your shoulder.
Resilient — you bounce back from rejection quickly and get back out there.
Organized enough to work through a large customer list systematically while staying opportunistic.
Comfortable in industrial environments walking facilities, meeting with maintenance and operations teams onsite.
A strong communicator who can adapt your approach from a plant operator to a VP of Operations.
Hungry to build something, you want to own a territory and grow it.
What You Bring
Experience in outside sales, business development, or a field-facing customer role, instrumentation, industrial, or O&G experience is a strong asset but not a requirement.
A proven track record of prospecting, cold calling, and building pipelines from scratch.
Valid driver's license and a clean driving record you will be on the road constantly.
Passport and ability to travel across Western Canada, with occasional cross-border travel.
Comfort with overnight travel and extended time in the field, this is non-negotiable.
CRM experience and a disciplined approach to tracking activity and managing your pipeline.
A high school diploma minimum; post-secondary in business, sales, or a technical field is an asset.
What We Offer
Competitive base salary plus performance-based commission, uncapped earning potential for top performers.
Vehicle allowance or company vehicle.
Travel and expense coverage.
Comprehensive benefits package.
A supportive team that backs you up in the field with technical expertise and inside sales support.
Real career growth top performers move up at JM Test.
The satisfaction of building something real in a territory you can call your own.
A Day in the Life
You start your morning with a route planned, a full list of stops, and the energy to make every conversation count. You hit your first few sites before 9am, leave a door knocker where no one answers, and land a 20-minute conversation with a maintenance supervisor who has been looking for a calibration partner. By noon you have made eight stops, added three new contacts to your CRM, and have a follow-up meeting booked for next week. The afternoon takes you to two more facilities and a plan to hit a fresh set of accounts first thing tomorrow.
That is the job. And if that sounds like your kind of day — we want to talk.
