About the Opportunity
Our client, a machine shop located in Bradford West Gwillimbury, Ontario, near Highway 400 and Highway 9, is seeking an experienced and reliable
Manual Machinist
to join their team.
This is a part-time temporary opportunity requiring 2–3 days of work per week, with the potential to transition into a permanent position. The successful candidate will have extensive hands-on experience operating manual machining equipment and the ability to independently set up and perform machining operations with accuracy and precision.
Key Responsibilities
Operate a variety of manual machining equipment, including radial arm drills, manual milling machines, and surface grinders.
Independently set up and operate manual machines to perform machining operations according to engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and production requirements.
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and machining specifications.
Select and use appropriate hand tools and machining equipment for various tasks.
Set up, position, and secure workpieces before machining.
Perform manual machining operations safely and accurately, ensuring components meet required specifications.
Work with steel blocks and components while maintaining high standards of quality and precision.
Inspect workpieces and ensure machining work meets production requirements.
Safely handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
Operate crane equipment and use appropriate lifting accessories to lift and position steel blocks weighing more than 50 lbs.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Follow all workplace health and safety procedures.
Perform other machining-related duties as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum of
5 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a Manual Machinist
.
Practical experience operating manual milling machines, radial arm drills, and surface grinders.
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and machining specifications.
Experience setting up and operating manual machining equipment independently.
Proficiency in selecting and using appropriate hand tools and machining equipment.
Previous experience working with steel blocks and metal components in a machine shop environment.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
Ability to work independently and manage machining tasks efficiently.
Ability to safely lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
Comfortable using crane equipment and appropriate lifting accessories to handle heavier materials.
Must be available to work 2–3 days per week, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Must be able to commute to Bradford West Gwillimbury, Ontario.
Assets
Machinist certification or a diploma in a related field.
Crane training and certification.
Additional experience with manual machining processes and equipment.
Experience handling and machining large steel components.
