Job DescriptionJob Description Machinist Job Description This role involves setting up and operating CNC and manual machining equipment to produce high-quality custom and production steel fabricated parts. You will interpret engineering drawings, plan machining operations, and use your knowledge of shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining methods to meet precise tolerances and specifications. You will also work with Fanuc controllers on boring mills, verify part quality with precision measuring instruments, and collaborate with the CAM department to adjust and optimize machining programs. Responsibilities Study engineering drawings and specifications to determine required dimensions, tolerances, and the sequence of machining operations. Set up and operate CNC and manual equipment, including boring mills and lathes, to machine custom and production steel fabricated parts. Verify that machined parts conform to specifications using measuring instruments such as scales, calipers, micrometers, and fixed gauges. Recognize and use specific controller capabilities and program parameters to load, evaluate, and run CNC programs on Fanuc-controlled machines. Input additions, deletions, and changes to machining programs as directed by the CAM department. Work from blueprints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements to achieve accurate and repeatable results. Use cranes, slings, and hoists safely to move materials and components as required for machining operations. Essential Skills Minimum 1 year of experience in machining. High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Experience using cranes, slings, and hoists. Experience operating boring mill machines with Fanuc controllers. Ability to work with GD&T requirements. Hands-on experience with CNC mills and CNC machines. Proficiency with Fanuc controls and CNC programs. Strong understanding of machining processes for steel fabricated parts. Legal authorization to work in Canada. Additional Skills & Qualifications Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is considered an asset. Comfort working with both custom and production machining jobs. Ability to collaborate effectively with the CAM department to implement program changes. Attention to detail when verifying dimensions and tolerances with precision measuring instruments. Work Environment This role is based in a machining and manufacturing facility and operates on an afternoon shift schedule from Monday to Thursday, working 10-hour shifts from 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM. You will work primarily with steel fabricated parts using CNC mills, boring mills, lathes, and Fanuc-controlled equipment.
