The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring production equipment in a unionized manufacturing environment. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety and quality standards, and the ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Machine Operation
Set up machines including calibration, cleaning, and adjustments.
Operate machinery safely and efficiently to meet production targets.
Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot minor issues.
Perform routine maintenance and basic adjustments as required.
Quality Control
Identify, segregate, and report non-conforming products to the supervisor or Quality department.
Ensure all products meet company and customer quality standards before release.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects and improve product quality.
Maintenance & Safety
Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies.
Report hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions immediately.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area.
Assist in preventative maintenance activities as required.
Reporting & Documentation
Complete production logs, quality checklists, and reports accurately.
Track production output and machine performance.
Communicate issues to supervisors in a timely manner.
Team Collaboration
Work collaboratively with production, quality, and maintenance teams.
Assist in training new operators as needed.
Support continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous manufacturing or machine operator experience preferred.
Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
Ability to read and follow work instructions and specifications.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Working Conditions
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Ability to lift up to 50–60 lbs.
Exposure to manufacturing environment (noise, machinery, etc.).
Flexibility to work shifts, overtime, or weekends as required.
