Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is located in Penetanguishene, Ontario on the shores of beautiful Georgian Bay, less than two hours from Toronto and approximately 45 minutes from Barrie. Waypoint is an academic and research hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction, and geriatric care to some of the most complex and disadvantaged people in Ontario. As a 315-bed psychiatric hospital, we deliver exceptional, progressive care, both on site at the hospital and in the communities we serve across the region.
About the Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Locum Physician (Family Physician or Hospitalist) with a strong foundation in physical health care and an interest in mental health settings to provide cross-program medical coverage. This role supports the delivery of integrated, patient-centered care across multiple clinical programs, ensuring continuity and quality of physical health services for individuals receiving mental health and addiction care.
This position is ideal for a physician who is flexible, collaborative, and comfortable working across varied clinical environments. Experience or interest in mental health, addiction medicine, and care of complex or vulnerable populations is highly valued.
Key Accountabilities
Provide comprehensive assessment and management of acute and chronic physical health conditions in a diverse patient population
Completing timely medical assessments, management of comorbid physical conditions, medication review, and coordination with primary care and specialty services as needed.
The physician will also contribute to clinical decision-making, safety planning, and health promotion initiatives within the programs they support.
Working collaboratively with the interprofessional care team including psychiatrists, Internists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Allied Health Staff within the inpatient programs
Opportunities for mentorship within a supportive work environment, if desired.
Provision of On Call Duties can be further discussed with the medical director.
Clinical expectations are based around an 8-hour day with breaks and lunch.
0.5 FTE/ 2.5 Days a week for up to 8 weeks
Requirements/Qualifications
Licensed for independent medical practice and in good standing with the College of Family Physicians of Canada
Extra training or clinical experience in mental health or addiction is considered an asset but not required.
Preference will be given to a candidate who is interested in contributing to our academic culture and who thrives as part of a collaborative team.

Proficiency in English language skills. French considered an additional asset.
Remuneration and Benefits
Daily Stipend is based on level of training, education and certification.
