Description This competition is open to all applicants however; internal candidates and applicants who were former employees of the University of Alberta will be given priority consideration before external candidates. Please log in to verify your internal candidate status. This position has a term length of one year plus one day from the date of hire. Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at University of Alberta campuses across Edmonton. The Locksmith is required by law to be security-audited and registered with Alberta Justice and the Solicitor General. This position is charged with the responsibility of providing a safe and secure environment for the University community at large. The Journeyperson locksmith provides continuous service (including the participation in standby on a rotating basis) ensuring that all emergency situations such as lost or stolen keys, break-ins, insecure doors, vandalism, etc., are dealt with in a timely manner. In addition to providing these services, it is the responsibility of the locksmith to manage and maintain a high security keying system for private organizations affiliated with the University of Alberta. Responsibilities Installing specified high-security lock systems, deadlocks, and keyless entry locks. Repairing, replacing, or adjusting damaged or defective components of an enterance or exit door, including door closers, hinges, electric release mechanisms, and sometimes the door itself. Changing lock key combinations by inserting new pins into locks. Designing complex master key systems for end users. Qualifications Grade 12 High School diploma or equivalent. Journeyperson Locksmith certificate. Supervisory safety course. 5 years of institutional locksmith experience. Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s license. Must be able to provide a recent copy of a three-year driver’s abstract with no more than six (6) demerits and/or two (2) moving violations within the last two years.
