About this position
Under the direction of the Administration Team provide all school library technical and service functions and assist library users.
Duties and responsibilities
Use and maintain a computerized circulation database containing patron records, item records (OPAC) and records of transactions, print notices and update statistics
Familiarity with library computer applications such as Destiny from Follett, edit and input catalogue records for new library materials using the automated library system, and/or download and edit vendor records as necessary
Administer the circulation desk
Maintain, shelve, weed and inventory library resources
Assist students and staff to locate resources using OPAC, the computer facilities and manual indexes, with an emphasis on proper search strategies and research skills
Assist in ensuring that library patrons know about newly acquired resources and compiling bibliographies
Troubleshoot basic computer problems and refer questions requiring further expertise to computer technician
Provide general library supervision
Assist with the tracking and distribution of textbook resources
Curate collections for classes as needed
Keep school website updated
Demonstrates experience and commitment to EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion)
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications, knowledge, and skills required
Secondary School Diploma
Post secondary education with a Library Technician diploma
Understand, interpret and apply MARC coding to catalogue records
Familiarity with the Dewey Decimal system is necessary
Proficiency in use of computers, including accurate and efficient keyboarding skills
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
