Position Summary The Senior Security Systems Technician serves as a technical leader within the organization and is responsible for advanced installations, commissioning, troubleshooting, inspections, quality assurance, customer training, and mentoring junior technicians. This role requires an experienced technician capable of leading complex projects, resolving advanced technical challenges, maintaining high-quality workmanship, and ensuring all installations meet New Age standards, customer requirements, manufacturer specifications, and applicable industry regulations. Senior Technicians play a critical role in technician development, quality control, and customer satisfaction. Primary Responsibilities Technical Leadership Provide technical support to field technicians. Assist with project planning and execution. Mentor Apprentices, Labourers, Technician I, and Technician II personnel. Review installation quality and workmanship. Support commissioning and technical escalations. Assist with manufacturer training initiatives. Advanced Security Systems Intrusion Systems Advanced troubleshooting of intrusion alarm systems. Commission complex alarm installations. Resolve communication failures. Conduct ULC-related inspections and testing. Support monitoring integrations. Access Control Systems Configure and commission complex access control systems. Troubleshoot controllers, readers, and field devices. Support enterprise-level deployments. Verify system performance and functionality. Conduct quality assurance inspections. Surveillance Systems Configure and commission advanced IP surveillance systems. Troubleshoot networked video systems. Optimize camera layouts and performance. Conduct surveillance system audits. Verify recording retention and performance standards. Fiber Optics Senior Technicians must be capable of: Fiber troubleshooting Fiber certification Fiber commissioning OTDR testing Interpreting OTDR results Diagnosing communication failures Documenting fiber deficiencies System Commissioning Commission newly installed systems. Verify programming. Verify customer requirements are met. Conduct acceptance testing. Perform final system verification. Resolve deficiencies prior to customer onboarding. Quality Assurance Senior Technicians are responsible for: QA inspections Workmanship reviews Installation audits SOP verification Deficiency identification Corrective action recommendations The Senior Technician acts as a quality gatekeeper before customer acceptance. Customer Training Provide customer training on: Access Control Systems Video Surveillance Systems Intrusion Alarm Systems Mobile Applications User Management Basic Troubleshooting System Reporting Functions Documentation Review and complete: Service Reports Inspection Reports Commissioning Reports Certification Reports Deficiency Reports As-Built Documentation Customer Turnover Documentation Required Qualifications Experience Minimum 5+ years of industry experience Commercial security systems experience Access control experience Video surveillance experience Structured cabling experience Fiber optic experience Advanced troubleshooting experience Technical Requirements Senior Technicians are expected to demonstrate competency in: OTDR Testing Fiber Certification System Commissioning Complex Access Control Systems Enterprise Surveillance Systems Quality Assurance Inspections Customer Training Project Coordination Technical Escalation Support Advanced Troubleshooting These competencies align with New Age's Senior Technician certification requirements. Verify field workmanship. Review technician documentation. Assist with technician evaluations. Support technician development plans. Promote safety and quality standards. Safety Responsibilities Enforce New Age Health & Safety policies. Conduct Job Hazard Assessments. Maintain safe work practices. Lead by example. Ensure PPE compliance. Verify safe use of ladders and aerial lifts. Report and correct unsafe conditions. Quality Standards Senior Technicians are expected to enforce all New Age installation standards. Zero-Tolerance Zip Tie Policy Zip ties are not permitted on structured cabling installations. Approved methods include: Velcro Straps J-Hooks Basket Tray Ladder Tray Approved Cable Management Systems Senior Technicians are responsible for identifying and correcting non-compliant installations.
