Position Summary:
Perth County is seeking two (2) full-time Labourer/Equipment Operators to join the Public Works department. This position is primarily responsible for providing a variety of construction, maintenance and repair services to roads and adjacent public property for the safety and convenience of the public.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for conducting general maintenance functions for public works operations such as construction and maintenance projects and maintaining roads and bridges in good condition
Required to respond to emergency requests
Provides winter maintenance for specific portions of roads. Operates snowplows and sanding/salting truck to remove ice and snow from roads
Performs routine equipment maintenance/repair tasks such as changing vehicle fluids, fueling, greasing, etc.
Inspects equipment on regularly scheduled basis and reports any mechanical concerns to the Mechanic
Forwarding public complaints regarding road conditions to Roads Foreperson/Operations Coordinator, Public Works
Perform daily vehicle/equipment logs
Patrols roads for maintenance and repairs
Discusses plans and work schedules with the Lead hand including the most useful equipment for certain jobs
Provides information and assistance as required
Ensure that Occupational Health and Safety practices and County of Perth policies and procedures are adhered to; wear any personal protective equipment required to ensure personal safety and report any known hazards and/or incidents in the workplace to immediate Supervisor
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
DZ License
Secondary school diploma
1-2 years experience operating heavy machinery requiring a DZ license
Ability to do small mechanical repairs
Knowledge of occupational health and safety act
Knowledge of how to assess mechanical breakdowns that require service
Hours:
44 hours per week with availability to work evenings/weekends and on-call when required.
Salary Range:
$67,450.24-$78,913.12 (based on Perth County’s 2026 salary grid).
