Key Responsibilities
The Journeyman Mechanic is responsible for servicing/repairing SOUTHLAND school buses in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. This position is not confined to shop activities as the Mechanic may be required to perform field work on down buses.
Ongoing maintenance / repair of buses
Diagnosing equipment problems
CVIP Inspections
Preventive Maintenance (PM) Inspections
Respond to road call breakdowns
Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
Work with shop management to maintain schedules and priorities
Follow SOUTHLAND procedures and guidelines
Maintain a clean and orderly work environment
Requirements
Journeyperson Mechanic ticket (Heavy Duty or Automotive)
2 – 5 years related experience
School bus and diesel repair experience considered an asset
Engine repair experience desired
Valid class 5 driver’s license (class 2 or 3 considered an asset)
CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License considered an asset
Own hand tools
Fluent in written and spoken English
Ability to comprehend/operate diagnostic and manual measuring tools
Analytical and troubleshooting skills
Computer proficiency
Willingness to mentor Apprentices
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at once
Remuneration
Commensurate with experience
Bi-weekly pay period (every second Friday)
