Job DescriptionJob Description
The person in this position possesses the full range of knowledge of materials, methods and tools required to construct, install, renovate and repair residential (some commercial) structures constructed of wood, steel, concrete and other materials using carpenter’s hand tools, power tools and equipment. Studies blueprints, sketches or building plans to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Erect wood framework walls, partitions, and rafters
Install doors and windows, floor coverings, ceilings, trims
Builds stairs
Build forms for concrete
Lays flooring
Installs cabinetry
Working from blueprint instructions from supervisors does layout-measuring, marking and arranging of various construction materials
Cut, shape and join
Checks accuracy of work and makes adjustments as required
Studies blueprints for work planning
Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level
Acts as team leader, supervises onsite staff, and mentors apprentice carpenters
Informs immediate supervisor of issues or defects and/or takes appropriate measures
Valid Saskatchewan driver's licence and a reliable vehicle to get to job site
Education
/
Experience:
Journeyperson status with at least 3 years experience OR an equivalent combination of 6 years of experience, training and education.
Knowledge:
(trade specific knowledge – technical competencies)
Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures in the residential construction industry
Knowledge of trade mathematics and imperial and metric measurements
Knowledge of the characteristics of construction materials and their proper use
Knowledge of installation equipment, techniques, and codes to meet specifications
Skills:

Ability to coach, mentor and train apprentices
Ability to provide leadership and supervision on the job
