Job DescriptionJob Description Job Posting: Journeyman Carpenter / Senior Lead Hand Company: Matthew Robertson Construction Inc. Location: Calgary, AB Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent Experience Required: 3–4+ years of post-apprenticeship/residential experience About Us Matthew Robertson Construction Inc. is a boutique, Calgary-based residential renovation firm. We don't do cookie-cutter developments. We specialize in high-end, custom residential transformations—architectural kitchens, complex structural additions, and bespoke millwork installations. Because we are a small, dedicated team, every person matters. We take immense pride in precise craftsmanship, clean job sites, and building incredible relationships with our clients. The Role We are looking for a skilled, self-motivated Journeyman Carpenter (or highly experienced Carpenter with equivalent residential hours) who can take a set of architectural drawings and execute them to absolute perfection. You won’t just be framing walls; you will be managing the flow of high-end residential jobs from demolition through to final finishing details. You will work closely alongside the owner, manage select sub-trades, and lead by example on site. Key Responsibilities Precision Framing & Forming: Executing straight, square, and structurally sound framing, window/door installations, and structural modifications. High-End Finishing: Installing architectural trim, custom interior doors, wall paneling, and assisting with high-grade millwork integration. Job Site Management: Reading blueprints, planning material drop-offs, keeping the site highly organized, and maintaining a safe, clean environment. Problem Solving: Working through the inevitable surprises that come with renovating older Calgary homes, finding elegant solutions that respect the design intent. What You Bring Experience: Minimum 3–4 years of hands-on experience in residential remodeling or custom carpentry (Journeyman ticket preferred, but a proven track record of high-end residential work is highly valued). Tools & Truck: A reliable vehicle (truck/van preferred) and a complete set of professional hand tools and basic power tools. Eye for Detail: A personal standard of craftsmanship where "good enough" is never actually good enough. Communication: Professional, articulate, and comfortable interacting with discerning homeowners and designers. Reliability: Punctual, dependable, and legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Class 5 driver's license. What We Offer Competitive Compensation: $32.00–$42.00/hour (Negotiable based on experience, depth of knowledge, and tools). Variety & Pride: Work on inspiring, unique architectural projects that you will actually want to take photos of for your portfolio. Consistent Hours: Stable, year-round indoor and outdoor work right here in Calgary. Great Culture: A respectful, collaborative team environment without the bureaucracy or politics of large commercial construction.
