Role Overview Become a part of the dynamic General Internal Medicine team at Shuswap Lake Hospital. The Internal Medicine group consists of five dedicated professionals in a community and GP‑run hospital that hosts a full time Emergency Department, General Surgery, Obstetrics, and Anesthesia. The successful candidate will share inpatient call with the group and provide outpatient consultations in a private office on their own schedule. Opportunities exist to do outreach clinics in other regional facilities, supported by provincial funding through NITAOP and the RSLP. In addition to an outpatient consultative service, the role includes critical care responsibilities such as central line insertion, transvenous pacemaker placement, non‑invasive ventilation, and stabilization of critical care patients. Ventilated patients are not currently supported. Cardiac diagnostics—Holter monitoring, ECGs, and stress testing—are available. The hospital has no Internal Medicine subspecialists, providing a diverse practice with potential for specialty niche development (bronchoscopy, endoscopy, echocardiography, etc.). Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a true general internist comfortable with prevention, diagnosis, and treatment across a wide breadth of diseases and conditions. They are motivated to become a strong member of the local medical community and are interested in robust inpatient care as well as outpatient services. A 1:6 call schedule and flexible clinic hours support a strong work‑life balance, complemented by the abundance of all‑season recreational and family opportunities in the area. Compensation and Benefits Compensation: Fee‑for‑Service. Estimated remuneration $300,000+ based on hours worked, plus MOCAP level 1. Benefits and Incentives: Additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement, including Retention Premium 8.12% and Retention Flat Fee $12,584. Relocation funding: $9,000 for moves within BC, $12,000 for moves within Canada, and $15,000 for those relocating from outside Canada. Recruitment incentive $10,000.
