The Opportunity — Build the Future with Us
Step into a hands-on
Fall Co-op
opportunity with our
Rail & Transit Modelling and Simulation
team, where you’ll help turn real-world transportation challenges into data-driven insights. You’ll work alongside engineers and technical specialists who use modelling, simulation, and analytics to improve how people move—supporting safer, more reliable, and more sustainable rail and transit systems.
This is a paid student position designed for
engineering university students
in an accredited co-op/internship program (returning to school after the work term).
Your Impact
Support rail and transit projects by building, running, and refining modelling and simulation workflows.
Analyze inputs/outputs, validate results, and help translate findings into clear technical insights for project teams.
Prepare data for modelling (cleaning, formatting, QA/QC) and document assumptions and methodologies.
Assist with scenario testing to evaluate performance, capacity, reliability, and operational impacts.
Contribute to technical memos, figures, and presentations that communicate results to internal and client teams.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate modelling outputs into broader engineering deliverables.
Learn and apply industry tools and best practices while receiving coaching from experienced practitioners.
Bring curiosity and fresh thinking—helping the team improve automation, repeatability, and visualization of results.
The Skills That Set You Apart
Currently enrolled in a
university engineering
program (e.g., Civil/Transportation, Systems, Software, Mechanical, Electrical, or related) and eligible for a
Fall co-op
term.
Foundational understanding of modelling concepts (e.g., simulation, optimization, statistics, forecasting, or systems analysis).
Experience with
data analysis/programming
(e.g., Python, MATLAB, R, or similar) for technical problem-solving.
Comfort working with spreadsheets and structured datasets; attention to detail in QA/QC and documentation.
Ability to communicate technical work clearly—written and verbal—tailored to different audiences.
Interest in rail and transit systems (operations, service planning, capacity, reliability, or infrastructure).
Collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn, ask questions, and take initiative.
Strong organization skills to manage tasks, timelines, and deliverables in a team environment.
