As an Intermediate/Experienced Asphalt Laboratory Technician based in Whitby, you'll bring advanced technical expertise to asphalt material testing and quality assurance, supporting complex infrastructure projects that strengthen communities. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of testing programs while mentoring junior team members and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. Your Impact Lead and conduct advanced asphalt laboratory testing in accordance with MTO, ASTM, and AASHTO standards. Interpret and validate test results to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality requirements. Troubleshoot material performance issues and recommend corrective actions to project teams. Oversee sample preparation, equipment maintenance, and calibration to ensure accuracy and consistency. Collaborate closely with engineers, contractors, and project stakeholders to support quality assurance and project delivery. Mentor and guide junior technicians, supporting skill development and knowledge sharing. Contribute to process improvements, innovation, and efficiency within laboratory operations. Champion a strong safety culture by adhering to and promoting health, safety, and environmental protocols. The Skills That Set You Apart Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Materials Engineering, or a related field. Demonstrated experience in asphalt materials testing within a laboratory and/or construction environment. Strong knowledge of MTO, ASTM, and AASHTO testing standards and procedures. CCIL certification (preferred; certification or eligibility considered an asset). Proven ability to analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical recommendations. Experience mentoring or supporting junior staff is an asset. Strong attention to detail, organization, and commitment to quality and safety. Why Choose WSP? Why Choose WSP?
