About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a well-established consulting engineering firm that continues to grow across Western Canada and is looking to add an
Intermediate Mechanical Designer
to its Vancouver team.
This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to technically strong, practical building solutions. You'll work across a diverse project portfolio while gaining exposure to project delivery, client coordination, and increasing design responsibility.
The Role
As an Intermediate Mechanical Designer, you will support and lead mechanical building system design across a range of projects including commercial, mixed-use residential, institutional, healthcare, industrial, and public-sector developments.
Working alongside project managers and senior engineers, you'll contribute through all phases of project delivery - from conceptual design through construction administration.
Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical systems including:
HVAC systems
Plumbing systems
Hydronic systems
Ventilation and exhaust systems
Fire protection coordination
Prepare construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation
Produce and coordinate design models using
Revit MEP
Perform load calculations and equipment selections
Coordinate with electrical, structural, architectural, and other project disciplines
Participate in project meetings and assist with consultant/client coordination
Conduct site reviews and support construction administration activities
Assist with permit submissions and municipal coordination
Ensure designs align with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
Support continuous improvement of design standards and internal processes
Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Systems, Engineering Technology, or related discipline
5-7+ years of experience
in mechanical building design within a consulting environment
Strong proficiency with
Revit MEP
and AutoCAD
Experience designing HVAC and plumbing systems for buildings
Understanding of applicable building and energy codes in British Columbia
Familiarity with project coordination and consultant communication
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Required Experience
Exposure to energy-efficient or sustainable building design is considered an asset
Experience with institutional, healthcare, commercial, or multi-family residential projects
Knowledge of software such as HAP, Trace, Carrier, or similar design tools
Construction administration and field review exposure
