The Opportunity
Acumen Agency is seeking an
Intellectual Property Brokerage & Business Development Director
to build and lead our IP brokerage business.
This role focuses on
commercializing and selling intellectual property on behalf of IP owners
. You will identify individuals, companies, inventors, entrepreneurs, creators, and organizations with valuable intellectual property, develop relationships with them, and help connect their IP with potential buyers, licensees, investors, strategic partners, and commercial opportunities.
The ideal candidate understands
trademarks, intellectual property, brand development, licensing, commercialization, brokerage, sales, and marketing
and knows how to turn intangible assets into revenue.
A registered trademark agent, IP agent, IP professional, lawyer, or other legally qualified IP professional is strongly preferred, although exceptional candidates with significant IP commercialization and brokerage experience may also be considered.
Responsibilities
Build and lead Acumen's global intellectual property brokerage division.
Identify IP owners with commercially valuable trademarks, brands, inventions, technologies, content, designs, and other intellectual property.
Approach and recruit IP owners who are interested in selling, licensing, promoting, or commercializing their IP.
Represent and promote IP opportunities to potential buyers, licensees, investors, companies, and strategic partners.
Develop and manage an international pipeline of IP opportunities.
Identify potential buyers and licensees through direct outreach, networking, research, partnerships, and business development.
Structure commercial opportunities involving IP sales, licensing, royalties, partnerships, assignments, and other monetization models.
Develop valuations, pricing strategies, brokerage proposals, and commercial presentations.
Negotiate brokerage arrangements, commissions, licensing opportunities, and commercial terms.
Coordinate with qualified legal professionals when agreements, assignments, licensing contracts, trademark matters, or other legal work is required.
Help IP owners develop stronger brands and commercial strategies where appropriate.
Promote IP through digital marketing, business networks, industry contacts, media, and strategic partnerships.
Build relationships with investors, corporations, entrepreneurs, brand owners, manufacturers, agencies, and other potential IP buyers.
Develop recurring revenue opportunities through licensing and ongoing commercialization.
Build a team of IP brokers, business development professionals, marketers, and researchers as the division grows.
Track leads, transactions, commissions, licensing revenue, and overall profitability.
Qualifications
Experience in intellectual property, trademark services, licensing, brand development, brokerage, business development, commercialization, or a related field.
Strong sales and negotiation abilities.
Experience selling or commercializing intangible assets, brands, trademarks, technology, content, or other IP is highly desirable.
Trademark agent, IP agent, lawyer, or other recognized IP professional credentials are strongly preferred.
Understanding of trademark ownership, licensing, assignments, royalties, IP protection, and commercialization.
Strong understanding of brand development and how intellectual property can create commercial value.
Ability to independently prospect, build relationships, pitch opportunities, negotiate, and close transactions.
Existing relationships with IP owners, businesses, investors, brands, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, or potential IP buyers are an advantage.
Entrepreneurial mindset and strong commercial judgment.
International business development experience is an asset.

As the IP brokerage division grows and the candidate demonstrates consistent performance, there is an opportunity to transition into a
full-time salaried leadership position
with responsibility for building and managing Acumen Agency's global IP brokerage division.
This is an opportunity to build a substantial new business line and participate directly in the revenue generated through successful IP commercialization.
