This leading global law firm is seeking a litigation associate (with 3-5 years of experience) to join its
insurance defence and coverage practice in Calgary
.
Recognized for its well established insurance and litigation platform, the successful candidate will work along side leading practitioners, on a broad range of litigation matters, including
insurance defence, coverage, commercial litigation, mediations, arbitrations, trials, and appeals
.
This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with strong litigation experience to join a collegial and highly regarded team within a global platform. The role offers sophisticated client work, mentorship, professional development, and the opportunity to continue building a strong litigation and insurance practice.
The position is hybrid, with a
minimum of two days per week
in the
Calgary
office.
Responsibilities
Providing legal analysis and advice in the areas of insurance defence and coverage.
Conducting legal research and preparing analysis.
Drafting pleadings, motion materials, factums, pre-trial memoranda, and mediation briefs.
Preparing correspondence to opposing counsel and clients.
Preparing for and attending examinations for discovery and mediations.
Appearing in court to argue motions and attend other adjudicative hearings.
Participating in professional and business development opportunities, including relevant Canadian Bar Association and industry events.
Performing certain tasks related to practice management.
Supporting other related business needs and priorities as they arise.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will:
Have a J.D. or LL.B. from a recognized common law school.
Be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta or another Canadian province.
Approximately
3 - 5 years of relevant experience in private practice
with a focus on
insurance and commercial litigation
.
Exceptional legal writing and communication skills.
Sound judgment, strong legal reasoning, and excellent analytical skills.
Creativity and practicality in solving problems.
The ability to develop strategies, present clear plans to clients, and communicate instructions precisely.

Compensation ranges between $125, 000.00 and $160 000.00 depending on experience and year of call.
