Saturn has an opportunity for a full time
Instrumentation Technician
based in the
Estevan or Weyburn , Saskatchewan
area. Reporting to the Superintendent, the Instrumentation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation and control systems used in oil and gas production facilities. This includes systems associated with pressure, temperature, flow, level, and control automation to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
Some specific duties, and responsibilities of the Instrumentation Tech include, but are not limited to:
Install, calibrate, and maintain process instrumentation including:
Pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters
Control valves, regulators, and actuators
Gas detection and safety systems
Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics on:
Instrumentation failures
Control loops and automation systems
Communication systems (SCADA, telemetry, PLCs)
Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on field equipment to ensure reliability and compliance
Support and maintain:
SCADA systems and remote monitoring equipment
PLCs and RTUs (setup, programming assistance, testing)
Assist with commissioning and start-up of new facilities, equipment, and upgrades
Read and interpret:
P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams)
Electrical schematics and loop drawings
Ensure all instrumentation work complies with:
Company safety standards
Regulatory requirements
Industry best practices
Coordinate with operations, electricians, and production teams to minimize downtime
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, calibrations, and repairs
Candidates for this position will possess the following qualifications and competencies:
Journeyman Instrumentation Technician (or equivalent certification/training)
Experience in oil and gas production or industrial facilities preferred
Strong understanding of:
Process control systems
Measurement devices and calibration procedures
Pneumatic and electronic control systems
Familiarity with SCADA, PLC systems, and field communications is an asset
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision
Solid mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
Good communication skills for coordination with operations teams
Strong safety mindset and adherence to procedures
Field-based position in oil and gas facilities
Exposure to outdoor environments and varying weather conditions
On-call availability
Travel between sites
Working at heights or in confined spaces
