About the Role
The HR Generalist is responsible for day-to-day payroll and HR activities, including payroll processing, employee records, onboarding, offboarding, benefits, recruitment coordination, compliance documentation, and employee inquiries.
This is a newly created role with the opportunity to grow into an HR Manager position as the function develops and the successful candidate demonstrates ownership of HR operations, payroll administration, employee relations, and process improvement.
What You’ll Do
Manage payroll processing for hourly and salaried employees in accordance with established payroll schedules.
Review and resolve payroll matters related to hours, overtime, vacation, statutory holidays, leaves, shift premiums, union premiums, deductions, taxable benefits, adjustments, and final pay.
Administer payroll requirements for unionized employees in accordance with applicable collective agreement provisions.
Maintain accurate employee, payroll, benefits, timekeeping, and HR records.
Support year-end payroll activities, including T4s, Records of Employment, payroll reporting, reconciliations, and audit support.
Act as a point of contact for employee questions related to pay, deductions, vacation balances, benefits, payroll timing, HR policies, and general employment matters.
Support recruitment activities, including job postings, interview coordination, candidate communication, reference checks, and hiring documentation.
Manage onboarding and offboarding activities, including employment paperwork, payroll setup, benefits enrollment, orientation, system access, ROE preparation, return of company property, and employee file closure.
Support managers with employee relations, documentation, policy interpretation, attendance matters, performance processes, and general HR guidance.
Support compliance with company and Group policies, including the Group Code of Conduct, Group Compliance Policy, the Ontario Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA), applicable payroll legislation, privacy requirements, and collective agreement provisions, including maintaining accurate and confidential employee, payroll, compensation, benefits, and HR records.
Collaborate across departments on HR reporting, employee communications, policy updates, process improvements, internal controls, and documentation requests.
Additional Expectation
Remain compliant with the Code of Conduct and Policies which includes the Kingspan Group Compliance Policy.
Ensure that all duties related to product compliance are adhered to in accordance with the Product Compliance Policy, Laws, Regulations, and market demands.
Responsible for all tasks to achieve compliance goals and demands of the Compliance Management System.
Must raise concerns related to the Compliance Management System to their supervisor, manager, or any member of the Leadership Team, or through the confidential whistle blower service.
What You’ll Bring
Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, Payroll, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
4–7 years of experience in HR, payroll, or a combined HR/payroll role, preferably in a small to mid-sized organization.
Working knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and Ontario employment standards, including CPP, EI, income tax deductions, vacation pay, statutory holidays, T4s, Records of Employment, and year-end payroll activities.
Working knowledge of payroll requirements in a unionized environment or under a collective agreement preferred.
Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, communication, organization, judgment, and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience using payroll, HRIS, timekeeping, or benefits systems.
