CAD About the Organization: The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle (BANAC) is an Indigenous governed, Indigenous led regional social planning and development organization. The BANAC service region now covers Simcoe County, Muskoka, and the northern York region. BANAC works in cooperation with Indigenous communities and non-Indigenous organizations to address community-identified priorities through coordinated planning, implementation and evaluation. BANAC has a mandate to support the continued promotion of Indigenous lifelong learning and community wellness through self-determination and community participation. BANAC offers many innovative programs and services including Aging Well Senior Supports, Bebminot Family Wellness, the Biinoojinsauk Child Care Centre, Maapii Enjii Zaagi Gaazwad and the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Indigenous Interprofessional Primary Care Team. Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin offers a wholistic approach to wellness that includes traditional healing practices in primary care, community clinics, addiction and recovery services, counselling programs, midwifery, land-based healing programs, and community health promotion. About the Role: This position operates within an Indigenous-led and Indigenous-governed organization that is accountable to the communities it serves. Work is grounded in the principle of Indigenous Health in Indigenous Hands, ensuring that all programs and services are developed, delivered, and evaluated under Indigenous governance structures and community direction. In alignment with Indigenous and provincial standards, the organization upholds excellence in care, accountability, and compliance while centering on Indigenous knowledge systems, cultural safety, and self-determination in health and social service deliverables. All employees are required to participate in organizational Indigenous Cultural Safety training and to engage in ongoing reflexive practices as part of their professional development. This includes a commitment to examining personal and systemic biases, deepening understanding of Indigenous histories and experiences, and ensuring that service delivery aligns with the values of respect, reciprocity, and wholism that guide the organizations work. This position is being posted in response to an existing vacancy at the Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle. The HRBP provides crucial administrative support for daily HR operations, handling tasks like recruitment support when needed, maintaining employee records, and acting as a contact for employee inquiries, all while ensuring confidentiality and accuracy in handling sensitive data. The HRBP will be essential in ensuring smooth HR workflows for BANAC and reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources. Role Responsibilities: Provides administrative support in the areas of employee relations, performance management and special projects as assigned. Ensures all employee documents are saved and organized uploaded within BANACs internal electronic filing systems. Updates and electronically tracks employee headcount movements such as promotions, transfers, and exits. Prepares employee letters including employment verifications and other employee documentations as required. Assists with the administration of BANACs performance management process by creating, revising, tracking and managing all applicable documents including Job Description documents, while ensuring applicable timelines are met. Tracks, and administers leaves of absence, ensures proper documentation and equitable leave best practices while adhering to internal company policies and ensuring confidentiality in all matters. Responsible for ensuring confidentiality and filing accuracy of all HR related documents in a timely manner. Assists with the screening of external applicants and coordinates interviews with department heads as appropriate. Responsible for the coordination of the background checks, including professional reference and background checks during the selection process as appropriate. Responsible for coordinating arrival experiences for all new hires. Assists with the preparation of employee training including documentation, resources, set up and support. Tracks and audits employee professional licenses/accreditations are valid and up to date, including but not limited to Ontario Drivers Licenses as applicable. Provides exceptional customer service to all employees in a timely and professional manner. Complies with all safety regulations of assigned tasks and ensures a clean and safe working environment with active participation in all organizational health and safety programs and initiatives. Stays up to date on employment legislation, industry trends and best practices related to human resources, specifically for Ontario. Other duties as assigned. What You Bring: A minimum of 3 to 4 years of professional human resources experience is required. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy. Must be computer literate with previous professional experience with HRIS systems, Adobe PDF, M365 applications (excel specifically), including SharePoint and Teams. Bachelors degree in human resources or in a related discipline, or diploma / certification in Human Resources Management from a recognized accredited institution is required. A member in good standing with the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) is required. Previous experience working in or with Indigenous communities is strongly preferred. A CHRP designation is strongly preferred. Knowledge and Skills: To perform this job successfully the incumbent Must be able to work in a fast paced and evolving work environment. Must be adaptable and have a positive attitude. Must have strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to work independently within the discretion of the position, with support from the Director of Human Resources. Must have the ability to complete tasks with a high level of detail quickly and accurately. Must have high emotional intelligence with excellent customer service skills. Must be able to perform assigned tasks with a high level of understanding for discretion and urgency. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Hybrid: work is typically performed remotely and at all BANAC locations as required. Low to moderate exposure to noise in the work environment. Regular exposure to a moderate level of tension and anxiety due to deadlines, competing political pressures, and the competing needs and demands for limited resources. Periodic exposure to smoke may occur from the burning of sacred medicines: Tobacco, sweet grass, sage and / or cedar.
