Simpcw Resources Group has an immediate opportunity for a dependable, experienced, and enthusiastic Permanent Full-Time Hotline Equipment Operator to join our Pipeline Maintenance Team. This position is ideally suited for an experienced excavator operator with a strong background in pipeline integrity digs, precision excavation, and working safely around active oil and gas infrastructure. Reporting to the Foreman, the Hotline Equipment Operator is responsible for performing heavy equipment operations in support of pipeline maintenance, integrity digs, and construction projects. This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and operating a variety of heavy equipment safely, efficiently, and productively . The successful candidate is a highly skilled excavator operator with proven experience performing hotline work and excavating around active pipelines and underground utilities . They demonstrate exceptional safety awareness, precise equipment control, and the ability to work collaboratively within a pipeline maintenance crew. This individual takes pride in protecting underground infrastructure, delivering quality workmanship, and maintaining the highest safety standards while contributing to the success of the team. Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications: Required Qualifications Valid Class 5 Driver's License. WHMIS Certification. CSTS Certification. Successful completion of pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing and provision of a satisfactory Driver's Abstract with no serious driving infractions within the past three (3) years are required. 3+ years of heavy equipment operating experience in pipeline construction, integrity digs, oil and gas maintenance, or utility excavation. Proven experience safely excavating around live pipelines and underground utilities. Demonstrated experience operating excavators ranging from 20-ton to 40-ton class machines in active pipeline environments. Demonstrated competency performing Hotline excavations around active pipelines, utilities, and underground infrastructure. Ability to successfully complete a practical excavator competency assessment. Experience operating excavators on pipeline-related projects is required. Strong understanding of ground disturbance regulations, utility locating requirements, and safe excavation practices. Proven ability to safely expose pipelines using precision excavation techniques while preventing damage to coated pipe, utilities, and associated facilities. Experience interpreting utility locates, alignment sheets, construction drawings, pipeline crossing documentation, and site-specific work packages. Ability to operate excavators ranging from mini excavators to large production machines in confined and sensitive work environments. Strong knowledge of pipeline right-of-way requirements and environmental protection procedures. Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and report equipment deficiencies. Ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and comply with all applicable safety procedures and regulations. Experience completing equipment logbooks, FLHAs, JHAs, inspection reports, and other required documentation. Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and exercise stop-work authority when required. Physically capable of performing manual labour outdoors for extended periods, including 12-hour shifts on a 6 days-on / 1 day-off schedule. Ability to lift, carry, and handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs. Preferred Qualifications Ground Disturbance Level II Certification. H2S Alive Certification. Common Safety Orientation (CSO). Occupational First Aid Level 1 or higher. Experience with pipeline integrity programs, including: Integrity digs Coating repairs Sleeving projects Line lowering activities Valve replacements Experience working effectively alongside inspectors, welders, coating technicians, utility representatives, and client personnel. Experience working in remote locations and rotational work environments. Experience working on projects for major pipeline operators such as TC Energy, Enbridge, Coastal GasLink, or similar organizations. Equipment Operation Safely operate assigned equipment as qualified and authorized, including excavators, dozers, skid steers, backhoes, loaders, rock trucks, dump trucks, and other support equipment. Perform excavation around active oil and gas utilities (hotline work), right-of-way clearing, site preparation, utility locating, and general pipeline construction and maintenance activities. Conduct pre-operational inspections and report deficiencies, damage, or maintenance requirements immediately. Operate equipment within manufacturer specifications, company procedures, site rules, and client requirements. Secure attachments, maintain equipment, lubricate components, refill fluids, and ensure equipment is kept in safe working condition. Shut down equipment and stop work if unsafe conditions are identified. Safety & Compliance Follow all company HSE policies, client safety requirements, and applicable regulatory standards. Participate in daily tailgate meetings, Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), orientations, and required training. Maintain fitness for duty and all required certifications. Identify, report, and address hazards, near misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately. Exercise and support stop-work authority whenever safety concerns arise. Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and compliance with all safe work procedures. Operational Execution Support pipeline maintenance and integrity projects, including integrity digs, excavation and exposure activities, access preparation, backfilling, restoration, and site cleanup. Assist welders, coating technicians, inspectors, and other crew members as required. Follow project drawings, alignment sheets, scope requirements, and direction from Lead Hands and Foremen. Maintain efficient work sequencing and contribute to overall crew productivity. Perform other related duties as assigned. Quality of Work Complete work in accordance with project specifications, tolerances, company standards, and client requirements. Protect pipelines, coatings, underground utilities, and surrounding infrastructure during excavation and handling activities. Identify potential quality concerns early and communicate them to supervision. Minimize rework by following approved procedures and instructions. Equipment Care & Housekeeping Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition. Support professional job site standards and housekeeping practices. Report equipment damage, excessive wear, or maintenance concerns promptly. Communication & Teamwork Take direction from Foremen and Lead Hands and communicate clearly with crew members and supervision. Ask questions when instructions, site conditions, or work expectations are unclear. Foster a respectful, cooperative, and safety-focused team environment.
