Job DescriptionJob Description Heavy Duty Mechanic Maintain and Repair Specialized Municipal Equipment Across BC Are you a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic who enjoys solving complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic challenges? In this role, you'll work on specialized service truck modules, vacuum and airflow systems, street sweepers, sewer equipment, garbage trucks, ice resurfacers, and other heavy-duty municipal equipment. You'll split your time between a modern service facility and customer sites across the province, working alongside a close-knit team of experienced technicians. What You'll DoEquipment Maintenance & Repair Diagnose, maintain, and repair specialized municipal and contractor equipment, including: Sewer equipment Street sweepers Garbage collection vehicles Ice resurfacing equipment Street flushing units Service truck modules Perform preventative maintenance and complete repairs efficiently and safely. Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical systems and components. Hydraulic, Pneumatic & Electrical Diagnostics Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, hoses, cylinders, and related components. Troubleshoot pneumatic, vacuum, and airflow systems, including blowers and fans. Diagnose and repair electrical issues involving wiring, controls, sensors, AC/DC converters, and related systems. Read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics to support accurate troubleshooting. Field Service Support Travel to customer sites across British Columbia to perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs. Work independently in field environments while maintaining high service standards. Communicate effectively with customers, parts personnel, and service teams regarding repairs and equipment status. Team & Shop Support Complete work orders accurately using computer-based systems. Maintain a safe, organized, and professional work environment. Share knowledge and collaborate with fellow technicians in a supportive team setting. Perform occasional MIG welding repairs and modifications as required. Required QualificationsMust-Have Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Red Seal Commercial Transport Mechanic certification. Open to qualified 3rd or 4th Year Apprentices with relevant experience. Minimum 2 years of experience troubleshooting electrical systems on heavy-duty or comparable equipment. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities. Experience repairing and maintaining hydraulic systems. Experience working with pneumatic systems. Ability to read and interpret: Electrical schematics Hydraulic schematics Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Ability to use computer-based work order and reporting systems. Must possess a suitable set of personal mechanic tools. Ability and willingness to travel for field service work. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications Experience with: Street sweepers Garbage trucks Ice resurfacing equipment Sewer and vacuum equipment Street flushing equipment 10+ years of experience as a Red Seal technician. Heavy equipment repair and maintenance background. Commercial Transport (CT) experience. Class 3 Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement. MIG welding experience involving steel or aluminum. Familiarity with AC/DC electrical conversion systems. Strong creative problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
