Position Summary: We are seeking a hands-on Health & Safety Manager to lead and continuously improve our occupational health and safety programs. This role works closely with Operations, Human Resources, supervisors, and employees to identify hazards, implement practical solutions, maintain COR compliance, and strengthen workplace safety. The successful candidate will be a collaborative and approachable safety leader who builds strong partnerships, provides practical guidance, and works alongside employees and leaders to strengthen safe work practices and operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities: Safety Program Management
Maintain and improve the companys occupational health and safety management system.
Ensure compliance with Alberta occupational health and safety legislation and ACSA COR requirements.
Develop and update safety policies, procedures, safe work practices, emergency plans, and training materials.
Monitor safety performance, identify trends, and provide practical recommendations to leadership.
Operational Safety Support
Maintain a visible presence on the manufacturing floor and provide hands-on guidance to employees and supervisors.
Lead hazard assessments, FLHAs, workplace inspections, and safety observations.
Support safe work practices involving welding, sheet-metal fabrication, forklifts, confined spaces, and material handling.
Deliver orientations, toolbox talks, refresher training, and other safety education.
Incident Management and Corrective Actions
Lead investigations involving incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and safety concerns.
Conduct root-cause analyses and work with Operations and HR to establish effective corrective actions.
Track corrective actions through completion and verify their effectiveness.
Maintain accurate investigation, inspection, training, and corrective-action records.
COR and Audit Readiness
Serve as the companys internal ACSA COR Auditor.
Conduct internal audits and assess plant readiness for the annual external COR audit.
Prepare required audit documentation and coordinate corrective-action plans arising from audit findings.
WCB and Return to Work
Manage WCB submissions, claims documentation, reviews, and reporting in collaboration with Human Resources.
Support appropriate return-to-work plans and modified duties.
Maintain accurate and confidential claims documentation.
Leadership and Collaboration
Provide direction and support to two health and safety team employees.
Support workplace health and safety committee activities.
Work collaboratively with Operations, Human Resources, leadership, employees, contractors, and external stakeholders.
Promote a workplace culture where safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement are shared responsibilities.
Qualifications:
Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or relevant post-secondary degree is required.
Current ACSA COR Auditor certification is required.
Current CSTS certification is required.
Current First Aid and CPR certification is required.
Experience with WCB claims and return-to-work programs is required.
Two to five years of health and safety experience, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or construction environment.
Strong knowledge of Alberta occupational health and safety legislation and COR requirements.
Experience with hazard assessments, inspections, incident investigations, internal audits, and corrective-action management.
Experience supporting manufacturing hazards such as welding, fabrication, forklifts, confined spaces, and material handling.
Strong communication, coaching, facilitation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to build effective working relationships with frontline employees, supervisors, Operations, HR, and senior leadership.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Construction Safety Officer certificate, CRSP, or CRST designation is considered an asset.
Physical Fitness Requirements: This position combines office work with regular time on the manufacturing floor. The employee must be able to move throughout production, fabrication, warehouse, and office areas while conducting inspections, investigations, audits, and safety observations. Working Hours: This is a full-time,ON-SITEposition located in South Foothills Industrial Park, Calgary, Alberta. The regular schedule is 44 hours per week:
Monday to Thursday: 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Friday: 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Occasional overtime, weekend work, or after-hours support may be required for incidents, investigations, audits, training, or operational needs. What We Offer:
