About the Department:
The Fund Development department aims to develop and implement strategies to increase the funding income of Islamic Relief through a range of fundraising initiatives and through acquisition and retention of donors, volunteers and community supporters.
Job Purpose:
The National Fundraising Manager serves as an essential member of Islamic Relief Canada's senior management team while directly reporting to the Director of Fundraising. The successful candidate will be an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting IRC’s Fundraising and community engagement department. In partnership with other senior managers, this position is responsible for implementation of fundraising and development activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build IRCs visibility, impact, and resources. The incumbent will also design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support.
They will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing best practices with other senior managers in regard to community fundraising activities such as: fundraising strategy, resource planning, event planning and execution, volunteer management, enhancing best practices, develop and maintain key relationships with a variety of community stakeholders, seeking funding through alternative methods.
She or he will expand and diversify IRC’s donor base and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new programs. In addition, they will work closely with the Senior Fundraising Management Team and support other department managers as they take on a more active fundraising role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Strategy and Planning
Work with the Director of Fundraising to lead the annual fundraising planning process to produce effective strategies to achieve revenue targets
In cooperation with the Director of Fundraising, lead the development of short and long-term strategy to achieve agreed organizational goals
Identify new potential income streams and produce strategies to access these funds
Produce cost-effective budgets to achieve action plans
Ensure the Fundraising Department is kept within budget
Ensure effective execution of Fundraising and Community engagement plans across all regions in Canada
Fundraising and Community Engagement
Support and partner with the Director of Fundraising and other senior managers on all major fundraising initiatives
Collaborate with the Director of Fundraising to develop and implement IRCs strategic fund raising and community engagement plan
Actively work with the Director of Fundraising and Senior Managers to develop and implement a comprehensive fund development strategy to include community, corporate, foundation, mosque, government grants, etc.
Seek fundraising opportunities such as partner events, charity tours, challenges, etc.
Oversee research of funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help continuously develop methods and best practices in fundraising
Seek strategic community engagement opportunities catered at a National and Regional level in order to acquire new donors, and also steward existing donors and partners
Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with community stakeholders
Monitor and report regularly on the progress of KPI’s and goals to the director of Fundraising
Staff Management
Identify, develop, and mentor the fund development team
Line management of fundraising staff, including all regional managers
Setting objectives and work plans for all regional managers
Managing workload and performance through regular one-to-one line management discussions
Plan and implement personal development program for team members in all relevant skills
Undertake annual performance reviews
Qualifications & Competencies:
Education and Experience
5-plus years of professional management experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources)
Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred
Successful, significant and relevant achievement at management level in a comparable national/international organization
Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated community stakeholder relationships over time including but not limited to Mosques, Domestic Partners, Cultural Organizations, Professional Organizations.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives
Ability to lead their direct reports to excel and exceed their goals and objectives
High energy and passion for IRCs mission
Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan
Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
Donor focus and driven
Experience of utilizing the strength of an organization brand for charity/business development
Proven track record of meeting and exceeding revenue targets
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
Strong leadership and management skills
Track record of innovative creative thinking in the field of fundraising
Knowledge of the fundraising environment and of a range techniques and disciplines which will support the cost effective generation of income for IRC
Exceptional written and oral skills with the ability to present and convey complex ideas and issues clearly and coherently
Comfortable with public speaking
Valid driver’s license
Ability to regularly travel within Canada and frequent International travel
Ability to be a strategic thinker and visionary to lead the organization to adopt new initiatives and enhance current best practices.
Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously, take initiative and make decisions
Ability to motivate, coach, and mentor their peers to achieve excellence
Hybrid Work Policy:
IRC has a hybrid model where in-office requirements are based on distance from our Burlington headquarters or a regional office (Surrey, Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa). Depending on where you live, this can range from
two days a week to one day a month.

Starting Salary:
$102,000.00Please note: The posted starting salary is intended to provide potential candidates with a general understanding of the compensation associated with the position.
