Job Description
As a Hazardous Material Professional, you will support hazardous materials assessments and environmental investigations across British Columbia. This role is ideal for an early‑career professional who is eager to build strong technical foundations while contributing to projects that protect people, communities, and the environment.
Working alongside experienced specialists, you will gain hands‑on exposure to fieldwork, reporting, and client‑focused delivery in a collaborative, safety‑driven environment.
Your Impact
Conduct hazardous materials surveys and assessments in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings/sites.
Collect asbestos, metals (e.g., lead), PCBs, microbials, and other designated substance samples.
Conduct hazardous materials condition assessments.
Conduct hazardous material abatement/remediation inspections and air monitoring.
Conduct field investigations and site visits in accordance with regulatory and health and safety requirements.
Maintain accurate field notes and support laboratory coordination.
Assist with the preparation of technical reports, figures, and documentation for clients and regulators.
Contribute to the development of hazardous materials management plans, safe work procedures, abatement specifications, and exposure control plans.
Apply provincial and federal regulations to support compliant project delivery.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on time and within scope.
Contribute to a strong safety culture by following WSP health and safety policies and procedures.
The Skills That Set You Apart
Degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, or a related field.
Foundational knowledge of hazardous materials (e.g., asbestos, lead, mould) and associated regulations in British Columbia.
Typically 2–6 years of experience in hazardous materials fieldwork or related environmental services.
Valid WorkSafeBC Level S Asbestos Certificate.
Formal training on asbestos, metals, PCB, microbials and hazardous substances regulations and sampling methods.
Willingness and ability to perform fieldwork regularly and wear PPE.
Willingness to work out of town for field work two to three weeks a month.
Fall protection and confined space entry training an asset.
Experience working safely in active buildings, industrial sites and construction environments.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple field tasks and priorities.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Commitment to safety leadership, quality work, and continuous learning.
Compensation
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $60,100 – $79,600
MB & ON: $54,800 – $75,400
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $54,200 – $72,000
The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on factors such as education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The wage range provided in this posting may be subject to change.
