The Opportunity
The Grocery Importer will be responsible for sourcing, importing, and managing grocery products from international suppliers to ensure consistent availability, quality, and cost-effectiveness for Food World Supermarket. This role oversees supplier coordination, import documentation, regulatory compliance, logistics, and inventory planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Import & Procurement
Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with international grocery suppliers.
Source competitive products that meet Food World quality, pricing, and branding standards.
Place purchase orders and manage supplier contracts and terms.
Regulatory & Compliance
Ensure all imported products comply with local food safety laws, labeling requirements, and import regulations.
Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government authorities.
Maintain accurate import documentation (invoices, packing lists, COO, health certificates, etc.).
Logistics & Supply Chain
Track shipments and manage lead times to avoid stock shortages.
Coordinate sea/air freight, customs clearance, and warehouse delivery.
Optimize shipping costs and improve supply chain efficiency.
Quality Control
Ensure imported products meet Food World quality standards.
Address quality issues, damages, or discrepancies with suppliers.
Inventory & Forecasting
Work with the inventory and sales teams to forecast demand.
Maintain optimal stock levels and reduce overstock or expiry risks.
Reporting & Coordination
Prepare cost analysis, supplier performance reports, and import summaries.
Collaborate with merchandising, finance, warehouse, and store operations teams.
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Logistics, or related field.
5 years of experience in grocery importation or FMCG procurement.
Strong knowledge of import regulations, customs procedures, and food compliance.
Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills.
Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP systems.
Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Skills:
Experience importing food products (dry grocery, frozen, chilled, or specialty items).
Knowledge of international markets and suppliers.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple shipments.
