Calgary’s science centre is a pioneer in science entertainment and programming, with roots dating back to 1967. Home to one of Western Canada’s largest dome theatre, the Digital Immersion Gallery, VR experiences, and innovative spaces like Steven’s Lab, where interactive experiments unfold before your eyes. From the robot-dog Flint to Canada’s first robot-coa5ter, R05iE, and a 15-acre park surrounding the science of the developing brain, Spark is a hub for creative encounters. Position Overview Spark is currently recruiting for a full-time, hourly General Labourer. The General Labourer reports directly to the Supervisor, Facility Operations. This person will assist the building operators with all building operations including outside ground maintenance and general and preventative maintenance for the property. The building is a LEED Gold building equipped with: · Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS) capable of operating on 100% outdoor air · Heat recovery heat wheels and heat pipes · Chilled water & heated overhead radiant panels · Dry cooler and mechanical screw chiller · High efficiency condensing boilers · Rainwater and snow melt capture for flushing toilets & urinals · Over 1.5 Mwh solar generation · New Building Automation System Shift schedule: Will be Monday to Friday. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with some flexibility required to cover evening Events. Key Responsibilities · Operate and maintain grounds, including but not limited to, lawn care, trees and shrubs, snow and ice removal. · Assist Building Operators with maintenance of the building. · Perform preventative maintenance and regular repairs. · Assist with checking & maintaining chiller and boiler water treatment. · Assist contractors and service personnel. · Maintain the building in “showroom“ condition at all times. · Ensure personal and team activities are aligned with business and strategic goals of Spark as a whole. · Model high performance, flexibility and kindness in a rapidly changing growth environment. · Other duties as required and assigned. Qualifications & Knowledge · Basic skills with hand tools and power tools. · Basic wall repair and painting skills. - Basic plumbing and electrical knowledge · Basic landscape and snow removal skills. Certification on Skid Steer, Side-By-Side, Powered equipment an asset. · Strong work ethic. · A proven track record of adding value to an organization’s culture and initiatives. · A positive attitude! · Desire to work on a high-performing team with a continuous upgrading culture to achieve high impact results. Fluidity and a desire to work hard and grow are essential. · Attention to detail. · Ability to maintain a clean work area and organize tools. · Able to work indoor and outdoor. · Willingness to learn and adapt to change.
