Job DescriptionJob Description General Labour – Scrap Metal Yard Location: Etobicoke Employment Type: Full-time Reports To: Yard Supervisor Job Summary The General Labour is responsible for supporting daily operations in the scrap metal yard, including receiving materials, assisting customers, operating weighing scale systems, keeping records and maintaining a safe and organized work environment. This role requires strong communication skills, basic computer knowledge, and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment. Key Responsibilities Customer Service Greet and assist customers arriving at the yard Provide guidance on material drop-off procedures Respond to basic inquiries regarding pricing, materials, and processes Ensure a professional and courteous customer experience Weigh Scale Operations Operate computerized weighing scale system for incoming and outgoing materials Accurately record weights, customer information, and transactions Generate tickets and receipts Maintain logs and ensure data accuracy Material Handling Assist with sorting, loading, and unloading scrap materials Identify different types of metals (training provided if needed) Maintain cleanliness and organization of yard areas General Yard Duties Perform manual labour tasks including lifting, moving, and stacking materials Follow all health and safety procedures and wear required PPE Assist with basic maintenance and housekeeping tasks Report any hazards or unsafe conditions to management Qualifications & Requirements High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous experience in a yard, warehouse, or similar environment is an asset Basic computer skills (data entry, operating simple systems) Strong customer service and communication skills Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions Physically fit; able to lift up to [insert weight, e.g., 50 lbs] Knowledge of scrap metal types is an asset (training can be provided) Skills & Competencies Attention to detail (especially for weighing and transactions) Reliability and punctuality Team player with a strong work ethic Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Safety-focused mindset Working Conditions Outdoor work in a scrap yard environment Exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required Quick Scrap Metal uses Workwolf’s AI-enabled tools to sort and screen applications based on job-related criteria.
