About Vessel
Vessel is an AI-native fund administrator for private equity and venture capital managers in Canada and the US.
For years, traditional fund administrators have held GPs back: inaccurate reporting, reactive communication, and no data foundation to automate any part of their operations. The cause is structural. The work is still manual, and the systems don't talk to each other. Every manual step is a chance for an error.
We built Vessel to fix that. Our proprietary software handles the mundane work. AI agents are grounded in a single source of truth for each firm and learn from its historical transactions, rules and fund structure. A capital call posts to the trial balance and to each LP's capital account at the same time, not after a reconciliation. Every entry is traced to its source, every approval is documented, every period can be locked. Quarter close is a cadence, not a crisis.
Our team manages the process. Our accountants check the work, fix it, and make the calls that need CPA expertise and judgement. Every number that goes out is checked by domain experts with more than 50 years of combined experience, and you'd be joining them.
Switching to Vessel shouldn't mean starting over for a GP. A fund's history moves over, and a parallel run with its existing provider proves the numbers tie. Migration takes days, not three months.
The role
You'll own a book of client funds, from onboarding through every quarter-end and year-end. You're the person the GP calls about their books, and you're accountable for what goes out to their LPs. You'll report to our CFO/CCO and work with the Directors and the product team.
If you've done fund accounting for a few years, you know how much of the job is mechanical. Here, most of that is drafted before you start. Your job is to review it, catch what's wrong, and know the LPA well enough to see what the draft missed. That's how one manager can carry more funds here without the quality slipping.
What you'll do
Run the quarterly cycle for your funds: bank and capital call reconciliations, journal entries, trial balance, NAV and the quarterly reporting package
Maintain partners' capital accounts and allocations (calls, distributions, management fees, carried interest) and issue capital account statements to LPs
Track portfolio investments and valuations, and keep the investment continuity schedule up to date
Prepare interim and annual financial statements with notes (ASPE / IFRS) and supporting schedules
Run year-end audits: PBC lists, auditor requests, sign-off
Bring new funds onto Vessel: rebuild opening balances, capital accounts and waterfalls from the prior administrator's data, and run the parallel quarters
Deal with GPs directly: ask for what's missing, chase valuations, hold the deadline
Tell the product team what's slowing you down
What we're looking for
CPA
6 to 10 years in fund administration or fund accounting, ideally PE/VC, at an administrator, a GP or an audit firm
You know partners' capital accounts and allocations, NAV and fair value, fund structures (parallel funds, SPVs, GP entities) and waterfalls, and you can read an LPA and apply it
You've prepared fund financial statements and taken them through an audit
You've handled several funds or clients at once on tight deadlines
You tie everything out, out of habit
Strong Excel; experience with a fund accounting system or a general ledger like Xero
You use AI tools every day and you don't trust their output until you've checked it
French and English is a plus
Why Vessel
You work on software we build ourselves, not on someone else's legacy system
You report to the CFO/CCO and you own your funds
When the platform gets in your way, you tell the people who build it
Our clients include some of the best VC and PE managers in Canada and the US, with a wide range of fund structures
Competitive base, bonus and equity. The fund admin team is growing, and there's room to grow with it
Montreal (hybrid), full-time.
