Job DescriptionJob Description Job Title: Forklift Operator Job Description This role combines hands-on forklift operation with system-based warehouse activities in a food manufacturing environment. You will spend approximately half of your time operating forklifts and handling materials, and the other half working within an ERP system to perform manual picking, inventory transactions, and related documentation. You will work with ingredients stored at varying temperatures, including fridges, freezers, and warm rooms, while supporting daily production by preparing materials according to work orders and assisting with shipping and receiving operations. Responsibilities Operate Raymond Reach and walkie forklifts to move raw materials and finished products safely and efficiently throughout the warehouse. Spend approximately 50% of the shift on forklift operation and 50% using the ERP system to perform manual picking and complete systematic inventory transactions. Follow detailed work orders to pick and stage ingredients and materials required for the next day’s production. Handle ingredients stored in different temperature zones by entering fridges, freezers, and warm rooms as needed to retrieve or store materials. Lift and repeatedly handle up to 50 lbs during palletizing and other material handling tasks. Support shipping and receiving activities, including loading and unloading products onto trailers and verifying shipments. Move raw materials and finished products from the back warehouse to designated shipping doors and storage areas. Use RF scanners and pallet jacks to manage inventory movements and maintain accurate stock records. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all facility safety and hygiene standards while working in a food production environment. Work safely in narrower warehouse aisles, operating forklifts with heightened awareness and caution. Essential Skills Externally certified experience operating Raymond Reach forklifts for 6 months to 1 year. Externally certified experience operating walkie forklifts for 6 months to 1 year. Proven shipping and receiving experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment. Ability to lift and repeatedly handle up to 50 lbs safely throughout the shift. Forklift operation skills, including safe maneuvering in tighter aisles and shared spaces. Material handling experience, including loading, unloading, palletizing, and order picking. Experience with pallet jacks and general warehouse equipment. Ability to work in temperature-variable environments, including fridges, freezers, warm rooms, and a warm production area. Comfort working around food products containing nuts and the ability to work in an environment where peanut allergies cannot be accommodated . Commitment to following GMP standards, safety procedures, and PPE requirements at all times. Additional Skills & Qualifications GMP experience in a food manufacturing or similar regulated environment is an asset. Possession of an AZ license is considered an advantage. Work Environment This role is based in a smaller food manufacturing facility that produces granola bars containing nuts, creating a clean environment that often smells like chocolate, caramel, and nuts. The warehouse is attached to the production floor, and typically about two operators work per building during a shift, fostering close collaboration and communication. The facility follows strict GMP standards, and all employees must adhere to hygiene and safety protocols. Temperature conditions vary: the main facility is fairly temperature controlled but can become warm in the summer, and you will regularly enter fridges, freezers, and warm rooms while fully covered for safety. The warehouse aisles are tighter than average, requiring careful and safety-focused forklift operation. PPE is mandatory and includes a long-sleeved lab coat, hair net, steel toe shoes, and gloves worn throughout the shift. No jewelry or fake eyelashes are permitted on the production floor to maintain product safety and compliance. You will also enter freezer and fridge areas fully covered, following all safety guidelines to work comfortably and safely in cold environments Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Markham, ON. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
