Job Title: Forklift Operator / Warehouse Associate
Job Description
This role combines forklift operation and hands-on warehouse work in a busy environment. You will focus on picking and loading customer orders, handling a wide range of materials, and ensuring accurate and timely order fulfillment. The position starts primarily indoors with a mix of manual lifting and forklift operation, with the potential to move outdoors to operate a sit-down forklift in a large yard.
Responsibilities
Pick and load customer orders promptly after they are received from the order desk, treating customer orders as the top priority throughout the day.
Operate reach and sit-down forklifts safely to move, load, and unload building materials in both warehouse and yard environments.
Frequently get on and off the forklift to manually handle and handbomb materials, spending approximately half the day lifting and moving individual items.
Use RF scanners to accurately pick, verify, and record orders, ensuring correct products and quantities are prepared for customers.
Unload incoming deliveries, check materials, and put away supplies in designated locations within the warehouse and yard.
Prepare picks in advance for customers who have pre-ordered, organizing materials so they are ready for pickup the following day.
Work outdoors when assigned, operating a sit-down forklift in the yard for the majority of the day in varying weather conditions.
Provide courteous and efficient customer service, interacting with customers at the loading area and helping load their orders into their vehicles.
Prioritize tasks effectively, frequently stopping current work to respond to new customer orders and shifting between duties as needed.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both the warehouse and yard, following safety procedures at all times.
Communicate clearly with the warehouse team, order desk, and leadership via radio and in person to coordinate order picking and loading.
Work collaboratively with a small team, supporting coworkers and stepping in to help wherever needed to keep operations running smoothly.
Essential Skills
Minimum 2 years of experience performing heavy lifting.
At least 1 year of experience operating a reach forklift for order picking in a narrow or smaller warehouse environment.
At least 1 year of experience operating a sit-down forklift, including work in a yard setting.
At least 1 year of experience in a smaller warehouse environment.
At least 1 year of customer service experience, including direct interaction with customers in a fast-paced setting.
At least 1 year of counterbalance forklift experience with propane and/or electric equipment.
Valid AB certification for stand-up forklifts (including reach and dockstocker) and sit-down forklifts.
Proven ability to lift 50 lbs continuously and up to 80 lbs with a partner, performing physical work for a significant portion of the day.
Experience working safely in a warehouse or yard environment, including operating forklifts around people, vehicles, and stored materials.
Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
Ability to multitask and change priorities quickly, stopping current tasks to load customer orders as required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience using RF scan guns for picking, tracking, and verifying orders.
Dockstocker forklift experience in warehouse operations.
Additional sit-down forklift experience beyond the minimum requirement, especially in outdoor yards.
Reliable transportation to a facility that is not immediately adjacent to public transit.
A go-getter attitude, with a willingness to jump in, help others, and take on tasks as needed.
Why Work Here?
You will join a stable, long-tenured team where people are valued and treated as an important part of the operation. The company offers medical and dental benefits, as well as RSP matching, supporting both your health and long-term financial well-being. There is a strong track record of internal growth, with employees progressing from entry roles into leadership and sales positions, providing clear opportunities to build a long-term career. The culture values teamwork, diversity of backgrounds, and a balance of friendly and focused personalities, all working together to keep customers satisfied and operations running smoothly.
Work Environment
You will split time between indoor warehouse operations and, when assigned, outdoor yard work on a sit-down forklift, working in various weather conditions. The role follows a first-shift schedule, generally Monday to Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with an 8-hour workday within that window, a half-hour lunch, and two 15-minute breaks, with potential overtime before or after the scheduled shift. The team consists of about nine people across the warehouse and yard, and the culture emphasizes teamwork, willingness to help, and making customers happy. Reliable transportation is recommended, as the nearest bus stop is approximately a 30-minute walk from the facility. Dress expectations align with a physical, industrial setting, requiring attire and footwear suitable for warehouse and yard work.
