Job DescriptionJob Description Job Title: Finishing Supervisor Job Description The Finishing Supervisor oversees the daily operations of finishing booths, curing ovens, finishing lines, and roll coaters to ensure high-quality finishes on wood and veneer products. This role maintains strict color consistency, leads the sanding work cell, and provides hands-on technical guidance to the finishing team. The Finishing Supervisor collaborates closely with maintenance and leadership to uphold production quality, safety, and efficiency standards while supporting a clean, organized, and professional work environment. Responsibilities Supervise the daily operation of finishing booths, curing ovens, finishing lines, and roll coaters to ensure consistent and efficient production. Act as the primary point of control for color consistency, ensuring all finishes match approved samples and work orders accurately. Oversee the sanding work cell to ensure proper preparation of wood and veneer surfaces before any finish is applied. Provide technical instruction and coaching on manual, pneumatic, and automated sanding techniques, including proper grit sequences and surface preparation standards. Ensure quality inspection processes are followed for sanding, finishing, grinding, polishing, and overall woodwork to meet required specifications. Interpret blueprints and work orders to guide finishing and sanding activities and ensure products meet design and customer requirements. Troubleshoot sanding equipment such as brush sanders and wide-belt sanders to minimize downtime and maintain production flow. Coordinate with the Maintenance department to schedule and support preventative maintenance of automated finishing and sanding equipment. Monitor inventory levels of stains, lacquers, and consumable materials, and report replenishment needs to leadership in a timely manner. Ensure safe and proper use of hand tools and power tools in the finishing and sanding areas. Support and reinforce quality, safety, and housekeeping standards across production and cabinetmaking areas. Provide day-to-day direction, guidance, and support to team members to promote productivity, quality, and continuous improvement. Essential Skills Proven supervisory experience in a finishing, woodworking, or related production environment. Ability to interpret blueprints and work orders to guide finishing and sanding operations. Hands-on experience with finishing processes including wood stain, lacquer application, and veneer finishing. Strong troubleshooting skills with sanding equipment such as brush sanders and wide-belt sanders. Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools for woodworking, sanding, grinding, and polishing. Experience in quality inspection for woodwork, finishes, and surface preparation. Demonstrated ability to maintain color consistency and match finishes to approved samples. Capability to provide technical instruction and coaching on sanding techniques, grit sequences, and surface preparation. Effective supervisory and communication skills to lead and support a production team. Comfort working with tape measures and other measuring tools to ensure dimensional accuracy. Additional Skills & Qualifications Paint experience in a production or custom woodworking environment. Custom woodworking experience, particularly in cabinetmaking or similar applications. Familiarity with roll coaters, curing ovens, and automated finishing lines. Experience working with veneer surfaces and their specific preparation and finishing requirements. Background in grinding and polishing wood components to a high-quality finish. Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices for finishing and sanding equipment. Why Work Here? The environment is split between production stations and cabinetmaking areas for custom work, allowing exposure to both standard production and custom projects. Employees work with technologies and equipment such as finishing booths, curing ovens, finishing lines, roll coaters, sanding equipment (including brush and wide-belt sanders), and a variety of hand tools and power tools. The standard shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., offering a predictable daytime schedule. Attire is supported by a work boot allowance, reflecting the need for appropriate safety footwear in a production and cabinetmaking environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Calgary, AB. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
