We’re hiring a Financial Controller to lead the financial function across
Shelmerdine Garden Center and Geller's Design|Build Landscape with expansion of both businesses on the horizon. Reporting to the CEO/Owner and COO/Owner, this role is split evenly between both organizations and is responsible for leading the accounting team, driving financial strategy, and supporting leadership with high-level insights and decision-making.
This is a leadership position for someone who not only understands the numbers but knows how to use them to guide business growth, improve systems, and unlock efficiencies while doing the do.
Split of focus: 50% Geller’s Design Build Landscape | 50% Shelmerdine Garden Center.

What You’ll Own
Full oversight and hands on work for financial operations across both businesses, including GST & PST filings, month-end close processes, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and maintenance of GAAP-compliant financial records
Development, monitoring, and adjustment of annual budgets, including profit vs. budget reporting and ongoing weekly cash flow analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
Financial strategy guidance to leadership through high-level and detailed financial reporting, including preparation of balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and participation in leadership meetings to support operational and strategic decision-making
Continuous improvement of financial systems and processes, including identification and implementation of operational efficiencies across business units
Preparation and coordination of year-end tax packages and audit support documentation, acting as the primary liaison with third-party accounting firms to ensure smooth year-end and audit processes
Evaluation of new business opportunities through pro forma analysis and contribution to inventory management and operational planning discussions from a financial perspective
Leadership and development of accounting team (2 staff), including performance reviews and oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll administration to ensure accuracy, efficiency, compliance, and strong financial controls
What We’re Looking For
CPA designation or in the process
5-6+ years’ of progressive accounting/finance experience
Proven leadership experience in accounting or finance roles
Strong understanding of financial strategy, forecasting, and analysis
Experience managing teams and conducting performance reviews
Advanced knowledge of accounting systems and process improvement
Ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights
Strong communication and leadership skills
Strategic thinker with a growth mindset
Experience in multi-entity or multi-division environments is an asset
