Position Overview
The Finance Officer will support the Finance Department in managing day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reporting. The role provides practical exposure to non-profit financial management, helping ensure accurate and timely financial records, compliance with donor and regulatory requirements, and informed decision-making by program managers.
This opportunity is designed to build the candidate's skills in accounting, reporting, and financial analysis while contributing to the organizations mission.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable (AP):
Process vendor invoices and staff reimbursements in a timely and accurate manner.
Assist with coding expenses to appropriate programs and funding sources.
Maintain AP files and ensure supporting documentation comply with internal controls and funding requirements.
Accounts Receivable (AR):
Prepare and issue invoices for funding partners and program activities.
Record and reconcile incoming payments and donations.
Prepare AR summaries and follow up on outstanding receivables.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Assist in preparing monthly financial reports, comparing actuals vs. budget, and identifying variances.
Support program managers with financial data and insights for effective budget utilization.
Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets and program forecasts.
General Accounting Support:
Perform journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
Support the Finance Manager with month-end and year-end close processes.
Assist with statutory and tax-related reporting, including HST/GST refunds and T3010 charity filing.
Grants and Compliance:
Track funding and expenditure to ensure compliance with donor and program requirements.
Assist in preparing financial information for funding proposals and reports.
Audit and Administrative Support:
Help prepare schedules and documentation for annual and special audits.
Maintain accurate and organized financial records.
Other Tasks:
Perform other finance-related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
Must meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility (see below).
Post-secondary education; (BA, BS, or Com degree program or related field with an accredited educational institution; students welcome)
Good Excel skills/knowledge of accounting concepts
Satisfactory analytical, data gathering and IT skills
A self-starter who is results-oriented, self-motivated and organized
Ability to maintain detailed fiscal records and files
Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
Strong Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible, applicants must:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and
Be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Compensation: $18.00 per hour
Work Model: Hybrid (in-person at Tropicana Centre, 1385 Huntingwood Drive, Scarborough + remote work)
