About the Role
This role is built for someone who wants to move faster than a traditional corporate environment allows.
Orion Digital is the finance and asset management arm of a dual-listed Canadian fintech. Our team supports lending, payments, wealth, treasury, and asset management operations, including a registered investment fund entity (IntelligentInvesting Securities Inc.) with its own reporting, reconciliation, and regulatory requirements.
You'll work directly with the Controller and alongside the Director of Finance across fund accounting, public-company reporting, financial instruments, consolidations, operational accounting, and finance transformation initiatives.
This is not a review-only management role. It's a hands-on opportunity for someone who wants meaningful ownership, broad exposure, and a clear path toward Senior Manager and ultimately Assistant Controller responsibilities.
If you're leaving Big 4 and looking for real ownership, or you're in industry and can already see the ceiling above you, this role was built for you.
Why This Role Matters
Own accounting for a registered investment fund entity within a dual-listed public company
Work directly with finance leadership in a lean, high-accountability environment
Develop expertise in IFRS, financial instruments, IFRS 9/ECL, and fund accounting
Gain exposure to lending, payments, wealth, treasury, and public-company reporting
Support consolidations across multiple entities and business lines
Contribute to finance transformation, automation, and AI-enabled workflows
Mentor one direct report while developing your own leadership capabilities
What You'll Own
Fund accounting reconciliations and investment-related accounting for IntelligentInvesting Securities Inc.
Revenue accounting and supporting operational finance schedules
Full-cycle close across assigned entities and business lines
Journal entries, working papers, and close package preparation
Balance sheet reconciliations and issue resolution
Consolidation support across multiple entities
Accounting for loans, financial instruments, and accruals
Financial reporting support for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting cycles
Audit schedule preparation and external audit coordination
AP oversight, vendor payment workflows, and process improvements
Internal controls, documentation, and accounting process enhancements
Day-to-day mentorship and development of one direct report
Who Thrives Here
You'll be successful if you:
Came up through Big 4 or a national firm and want operational ownership, not another review cycle
Have strong technical accounting fundamentals and enjoy solving complex problems
Are ambitious about your career and motivated by increasing responsibility
Prefer building and improving processes over maintaining the status quo
Operate with a high degree of accountability and follow-through
Want direct exposure to senior finance leadership
Thrive in a lean environment where strong performers advance quickly
What You Bring
CPA designation completed or in final stages
4–7 years of progressive accounting experience
Big 4 or national-firm public practice experience required
Strong IFRS and financial reporting foundation
Experience with financial instruments, IFRS 9, and ECL concepts
Full-cycle accounting experience including close, reconciliations, reporting, and audit support
Wealth management, asset management, or investment fund accounting experience is a strong asset
Strong Excel skills and ERP experience (NetSuite preferred)
Ability to work independently and navigate ambiguity
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Genuine interest in process improvement, automation, and scalable finance operations
What Success Looks Like (12 Months)
Close processes are reliable, scalable, and well-documented
Reconciliations are timely, accurate, and consistently completed without rework
Fund, lending, and operational accounting processes operate efficiently
Audit and reporting deliverables are completed with minimal oversight
Key accounting processes are strengthened through automation and improvement initiatives
You have become a trusted partner to the Controller and Director of Finance, operating with a high degree of ownership and independence
Growth Opportunity
This role is intentionally designed as a development path.
You'll gain exposure across fund accounting, financial instruments, public-company reporting, treasury, consolidations, and operational finance while working directly with senior finance leadership.
For the right individual, the path from Finance Manager to Senior Manager and ultimately Assistant Controller is both realistic and actively supported.
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary: $100,000–$125,000 CAD. The upper end of the range is reserved for candidates who bring a combination of strong public-company accounting experience, technical IFRS expertise, and directly relevant industry exposure.
Equity participation aligned with long-term value creation
Comprehensive health and wellness benefits
Flexible remote-first work environment
Flexible vacation policy
Direct mentorship and career development from experienced finance leaders
Final Note
We're looking for someone who wants more than a traditional accounting role.
This is an opportunity to build deep technical expertise, take ownership early, and play a meaningful role in a finance function that is actively evolving.
If you're looking for accelerated growth, direct access to decision-makers, and the chance to leave a visible mark on the business, we'd like to hear from you.
